Whenever I come to a Stop and get on the Brakes a lil more than "Regular", when I let go of the Brakes to Move Forward, it's like something let's Loose, you Feel a lil Thud in the Truck and the Sound of something letting go, then everything is fine.

It's almost as if when you get On and Hold the Brakes, it "Holds" whatever is Loose towards the Rear of the Vehicle. Then when you let Off the Brakes, it "Let's Go" and Moves back Forward.

It's weird to Explain, but if you were in the Vehicle when it Happens, you'd know exactly what I'm Talking about.

But if I Drive down the Road, Rock the Truck Back & Fourth, get on the Brakes but stay Rolling, it doesn't do it. Only when coming Out of a Complete Stop.

I had the Dealer Look at it, and they couldn't Find anything.

Truck only has 15k Miles on it as well, and is NEVER Off Road.

This has got to be a "Universal Problem" because I have been in other Vehicles where this has happened. So it's gotta be 1 Main thing that is Loose or Bad that Causes it.

It's the knuckle in the back of the drive shaft.

Comes as an assembly with all the universal joints, drive shaft and knukle.

If you instead were to buy the Universal joints, drive shaft and knukle separately they would cost over $350 dollars, but for some unknown reason if you buy them as an assembly it only costs $168.00 from Mopar Parts America.com.

Buy the assembly and eliminate the problem.

30 minute install.

Knuckle in the driveshaft? Never heard of anything like this. Details?

Had this same problem. My $15 U-joint back there solved it.

Tried to find the part number by going into my account on Mopar Parts America but they don't show the part number....

But this is what it says:

Ordered on 11/19/09 - OEM Catalog - SHAFT DRIVE - 1 - $163.30 $0.00 $163.30 Status: Sent

and that was for the whole shaft assembly, it included the universal joints and rear Yoke knuckle attached to the drive shaft and sold as an assembly.

What your discribing sounds like what mine is doing and having owned 3 XJ's I know the symptoms well. The problem on the XJ's is the splines on the slip joint on the rear drive shaft where it fits over the tail shaft on the transfer case needs lubricated :SOMBRERO: The OLDER XJ's have a grease on them :D

Mine does the same thing. So I can just grease the rear U-Joint and that will solve the problem, or do I need to replace it?

So Buy a Whole New Drive Shaft?

This is what I Found, is it Correct: Drive shaft, liberty, 4wd, 2.8l $188.89

The 3 Subcategories are: Drive Shaft / Slip Yoke / Universal Joints

First, I'd put new U-joints in it, and re-grease the splines on the t-case end. That should cure the problem. If not, you are only out $15-30 bucks. Better than throwing almost $200 at it immediately.

It's not your u-joints, it's the slip yoke in the rear driveshaft. Pull it off and grease the splines - problem solved.

I'm so glad you brought this up. We have the same issue. Will grease slip joint first.

Does anyone have a pic of the slip joint that they could post?

It's under the rubber boot at the front end of your rear driveshaft, just forward of the big metal ring damper. It's held on by two clamps. If you're really careful you can unhook the rear clamp on the rubber boot. Unbolt the driveshaft from the diff, after marking it to reinstall in the same position. Slide the driveshaft off and wipe some grease in the splines. If you were careful you can re-use that clamp on the boot.
