It is you can look at their website and be one of the first to test drive if you sign up for it. Here is the Hyperlink http://www.mahindrana.com/
It looks pretty cool if you think of the 30mpg and the CRD engine.

I believe that "Mahindra" is the Indian word for Vaporware.

I am not planning on buying one, but I am sure it has alot to do with the EPA and the "Fake Global Warming" BS. I have to go to court with an Indian tomorrow, second one this year, to get paid for my services. You can be sure am not going to send :2cents: over to their country.

I signed up with them too... And haven't heard word one about it since.

Am I holding my breath? Not really. I already have ONE abandonware vehicle, I don't intend on getting a second one, from a company that might ALSO become abandonware. (kinda just like Mopar did... Only worse - Mopar didn't leave the country)

Automotive weekly in the March 29, edition had an article on them. The made for the US version is so different then their current product Mahindra is doing 6 days a week 24 hours 100k mile tesing in the US before they release it for EPA testing. And they are currently looking at a summer 2010 release date. They are thinking they can get safty approval in a month but an offocial there indicates they should not plan on just a month for approval

Just think if Chrysler would have tested our CRD's for 100,000 miles instead of letting us test them :juggle:

The fellow running Global marketing, the distributor, signed up delers for a diesel powered small pickup then went looking for a product. The first deal with another company fell through then he linked up with Mahindra. The article sounds like Mahindra is a little concerned with the "distributor" relationship.

The article claims a payload of 2,765 pounds, towing capacity of 5,000 pounds and fuel economy of 27-30.
They compared the 2.2 liter 4 cylinder with a Dakota and Ram 1500 with 3.7L V6 and it out did them in each catagory except towing on the Dakota that was also 5k.

Mahindra is struggling with passing the DF (deterioration factor) fleet testing. This is mandated by the EPA for any new powertrain and exhaust after-treatment in order to legally sell a vehicle in the states. They certainly will not state this other than 'we are accumulating more durability miles'. The DF fleet is used to determine the factors applied to emission results of a new vehicle to simulate what the emissions would be at 100,000 miles or 150,000 is they choose to certifly to that level. It is also used to determine which components are covered under emission compliance warranty. If the vehicles have a hardware failure during the DF mileage accumulation, it must be documented, fixed and the test restarted at 0 miles or get a variance from the EPA as a service item. Chrysler also had to pass this test with the KJ, but that apparently did not do much good! With all the issues diesel powertains at other OEMs are having with lean-NOx traps, SCR (urea injection) and diesel particulate filters (DPF), it is not a surprise that Mahindra is having difficulties. The powertrain configuration is unique for the States and design iterations are most likely the culprit for delays in the release date.

I'm old enough to remember reading in Popular Science magazine about a VW 3 cylinder diesel hybrid rabbit they were testing in Germany around 1980. Just think what can be done now with a TDI engine, lithium ion batteries and advanced computer controls that were not available in 1980  .

Pshh. I remember a few years ago (think 2003) that VW was playing with a 3-cyl diesel that managed 1 liter per 100km... 60mpg. Will we get it here? Not a chance. :banghead:

Post subject:  Re: IS THE MAHINDRA ALIVE?????

Leave it to the EPA to screw everything up. They force manufacturers to put so much emissions crap on these diesel engines that they end up consuming 50% more fuel...thereby counter-acting any environmental benefit the emissions crap was supposedly installed to prevent in the first place. Government....gotta' love it.

If the fools would leave diesels alone we'd all be better off. Less fuel consumed equals less pollution emmitted.

According to the below link 1 liter to 100km is 235 mpg but it was a prototype  (but I'm not so sure of the math)
The production model got 78 mpg and was the Lupo and they did more then play with it :jester: It was available from 1999 till 2005. They did bring a couple here on their around the world tour. They needed to fly in pump grade Shell diesel fuel for them as our crap wouldn't do. They had a support fleet of diesel powered Eurovans that filled up in Texas somewhere and had to make an unscheduled pit stop at a dealer to get their fuel systems cleaned :furious:

In Europe there was a prize put up for the first automaker to produce a 100km per liter car. No law demanding a unrealistic CAFE and at the same time requiring the exhaust coming out to be cleaner then the air going in :dizzy: Smart cars and Lupo's are not for everyone :ROTFL:

In my mind VW US has made more then a few mistakes and not bringing over the Lupo was one of them :ALONE:
