Need new shocks

I have worn shocks and looking for advice on replacements. Do not want to lift but want good aftermarket shocks to replace stock units.
What has worked best. Tks

I replaced my rear shocks at around 70k in July 08 with KYB GR-2 $37.00 a piece and 15 minutes a side to change. I still have the original front shocks in the struts.

Thanks for the tip on the rear KYB. I will look into this option. Any other suggestions for the front "struts". I would like firmer vs stock.

I spent the dough for the OME and have been happy so far. I have heard they last much longer than the alternatives. Might be just rumors that sucked me in to the more expensive ones though.

I want to say this company used to sell the rancho's but recommended the OME's for the CRD's due to the specific CRD valving rather than the ranchos that are valved the same for the CRD and the gasser. IDK for sure, might have just got sucked in with the marketing - but I like them so far. LOL :ROTFL:

Also can buy longer extending rear shocks for extra flex. Not sure if you can run these w/o the lift, but I think so. In that case it would be good preparation if you plan on lifting later on.

I have two sets of Bilsteins for a stock ride height KJ CRD. The first set was terrific on install, but in a couple thousand miles they lost rebound damping (particularly the front). (No sign of leaks) New set was just installed and are still good, but do not have 2K on them yet. (I added a short celasto to the fronts in case the OEM bumpstops were allowing internal bottoming.)

I am about to send the first set to Bilstein in CA to have them dynoed to determine how they deteriorated and hopefully why.

Will keep you posted. These are available for under $300 for a full set and have a lifetime warranty. If the issue can be resolved, they should be a very good option and a good value for many CRD owners.

I replaced my stock stuff @ ~72k with the OME springs and struts. At firs I wasn't that impressed, but I must say as they have broken in and settled I am quite impressed with them. I towed my SVO home today and it rode much better than stock. I didn't go the Frankenlift route, but just got the springs and struts and bumpstops from JeepinByAl

Ryan, I'm looking at this kit: http://jeepinbyal.com/prod-OME_1_50__lift_kit-634.aspx Which I assume is what you did? Can you tell me what springs you used? Are the bump stops necessary?

Yup. 790 springs up front, in reading the others start sagging and were the initial run at the CRD market. So make sure you get 790s. Otherwise, everything I did was HD. I did the Long Travel rear shocks, not because I do any off roading but just didn't want any issues. From the reading I did, bump-stops didn't seem to be absolutely required, but highly recommended and for another 40 bucks I splurged.
