I was rotating the alternator pulley back and forth with a 10mm socket on the alternator shaft trying to duplicate a squeak I have been having. Before I realized what I was doing I had rotated the engine backwards a quarter of a turn or so.
Now I'm afraid that I will have to go through the timing procedure to make sure the timing belt did not skip a notch.

You should be fine - the engine usually rolls backwards a little bit when you shut it off, so nothing to be worried about. Now, if you went backwards 1 or 2 complete revolutions, that might be a different story...
