Ok, so it's not me, but let's say I have a hypothetical friend who has a hypothetical CRD similar to mine, and let's say this friend isn't concerned about warranty issues and wants to get a module. The tech info on the Digi CR is conflicting, and they don't make much more power. Bully Dog indicates they won't have a product until August or September. Edge isn't even responding to customer inquiries. THe Dr Performance Predator is solely a fuel pressure booster.

That leaves the MP-8 from TS Performance. Adjustable output (not sure what the specs are on that) and 50-60 hp plus 110-120 lb/ft of torque. Sounds mighty interesting. Combine that with an exhaust and pyro, and it sounds like a nice setup. That, and I can't see anyone squeezing more than 60hp out of the 2.8L. That's like 120hp out of the pickup diesels on the market, and that's about all you can reliably get.

Someone talk some sense into "my friend" and convince him that he should wait until more products are available.

Yeah, I would wait. For now, just get a spiffy new exhaust and pyro, so at least you have a good baseline for future mods. Plus it'll feel peppier due to decreased turbo lag. then when you do addd a module it'll feel peppier again. So you get twice the joy ;)

That Aussie module that's been discussed in the Digi-CR thread sounds good - at least the company is willing to answer questions very quickly and support is important to me. I like that they've had the CRD's for a few years and have some experience w/ longevity on this engine, unlike TS and those guys that are more experienced w/ the larger motors. After I do my AT install I'll look into that one, assuming something else hasn't come along.

The Upsolute product isn't near the power gains of the MP-8. My friend just can't see anyone coming out with something that has markedly more power. And the Edge display, while cute, strikes my friend as unnecessary.

My guess is that the MP-8, on max power, will only be useable for short bursts...but on lower settings, may offer greater economy/driveability without undue EGTs.

Well that company, TS Products, is located in Bowling Green. Bowling Green is where Corvettes are built, it's where Holley makes carbeurators, it's got a nice race track, etc. It's a very "performance oriented" city. I lived there for 5 years. The guys down there know diesels and they know engines in general.

The cool thing about the MP-8 is that it works on Dodge, Chevy, Ford, and Jeep. It's a pretty straightforward installation too. 225 HP and 400+ lb./ft. of torque in a Jeep that weighs 4,200 lbs....that would be a SWEET ride.

The only reason I haven't driven my Jeep over to them to get my CRD modified is the warranty. The CRD engine is really pushing the envelope in stock form. 160/300 are big numbers from a 2.8L engine. So adding all that extra power might not be a good idea. I want to at least get my loan paid down some on this thing before I go blowing it up.

But if you are looking for a module for power...I'd say YES get the MP-8.

I got a tip from another company that Edge was working on a module for the CRD. Back in December, when I was checking on possible EGT/Boost gauge setups, I called a diesel performance company based in BC Canada. While we were discussing EGT's and what TST had reported for EGT's, the gent mentioned that they were beta testing an Edge module on a CRD and weren't seeing nearly as high EGT's.

I caught that little blurb, and asked him directly "Did you just say you were beta testing an Edge module for the CRD?". He replied in the affirmative, that they were an Edge distributor, and had been asked to do beta testing on the module, and that tenative plans were for it to be announced publicly sometime around March this year.

Whether or not that's still the plan, your guess is as good as mine. They may have decided that the performance gains weren't worth the effort, or that the market based on the number of vehicles is just too small, or perhaps they're finding reliability issues using a performance module on these engines. Who knows? Look at Bully Dog. when I called them at the same time, they said their CRD setup would be available in February, now they're saying August or September?

Personally, I think I can wait and see what Edge and Bully Dog have to say. If these guys decide it's just too chancy trying to pump up one of these engines, it'd certainly give me pause when considering adding a module.

Yeah, there are at least 4 'American' companies in the fray:

TS Performance has the MP-8 out. (50-60hp and 110-120lb/ft of torque)

Edge may be working on something (no response)

Bullydog is working on something (Feb...no, wait, September release)

TST Performance (not to be confused with TS Performance) says on their website that they're working on something...but no details.

Looking at it like that.... I drive past Lowe's Motor Speedway everyday, that does that mean I know how to race?

I will wait for Bully Dog or Edge

The point is...the people in that city know a thing or two about engines. It's the culture there. I would trust a product coming out of a city like that before I would trust something from New York City.
