So, i just got the chance to finish the pumbing of the lift pump on the crd. this pump runs about 7psi....
The first start up the pump came on then died...i was like WTF! but did some troubleshoot'n and it was just fuse...ahhhh.

So the lag from a dig/start is far less than before which is great. and it seems to idle better....however, im still get'n a little bit of skipping/sputter(very faint) at about 2200 to 2500 rpms. I checked all my lines and connections and bled the fuel head several time and all the air seems to be out. the crd runs great but its still get'n air from somewhere...........

So is the head bad or just need to be replace. do they go bad or suck air when worn out?

Check your fittings and the line between the pump and tank. I put my external pump as close to the tank as I could. You may need to drop the tank and replace the line between your pump and the tank. The stock fittings are designed to run under pressure, not vacuum, therefore they can leak air into the fuel system.

If your pump is mounted before the head then the head is under pressure and can not leak air in. If it's bad with a lift pump it will leak fuel out.

Like warp said, check the fitting and lines on top of the tank. I suspect my leak and many others were/are caused by the plastic disconnect fittings by the tank.

Well - I realize this is a minority viewpoint - but you need to fix the Fuel head 1st and then add the lift pump.
The original head is a bad design, pressurizing a bad design - just makes for more interesting problems, not solutions.

old vs new

(Racor is also good - but more work)

so good ideas guys. thanks!

So ill check the line into the tank....so i guess a possible air leak could be between where the fuel line enter the tank?
