Driving down the highwat at 65mph indicated Check eng light, O/D off light and sudden downshift. Very exciting! Problem is intermittant and the dealer suggested replacing relay (15 bucks, no big deal) Could a failing or failed SEGR cause this.

What was the code?

Did you have a scanner (scanguage) attatched to your obdii port :?: If so that will do it for sure :jester: The CRD's data bus is a confused mess and does not like being messed with :dizzy:

Did it operate ok after pulling it off the road and restarting it? It's been a long time since it's been happening here and I don't remember the lights but suddently down shifting to 3rd at highway speeds was one symptom the a torque converter failing :| Another symptom was like driving a stick shift and forgetting to push the clutch while coming to a stop.

I cannot imagine a scenario where a failed SEGR would do this.

I don't have a code reader. I took it to the dealer as I have a 100k warranty. (97k now). It worked OK after shutdown but a few starts later I got a check eng light with very sluggish to non existant throttle response and an occasional flashing traction control light. Thats when it went to the dealer. They told me the stored code was P0888 and believed 846,071,988,876 and 841 were caused by the 888. There was no duplication on test drive and I can't pick up the Jeep until Sat as I'm out of town.
I didn't think the SEGR could cause it but wanted to be sure.
