Post subject:  Tools for timing Belt Change out?

Hi, I am looking for a place to rent or buy a set of the tools needed to change out the timing belt on my CRD. The dealer says they can get them for around 200.00, but I figure someone out there may already have them and be willing to rent them or let me buy them for a not to insane price! I believe the 2 tools I need are the cam pins and cam locking tool. If you guys have an alternative to these tools, would love to hear about it. Thanks in advance!

Try Keith at Green Diesel Engineering, they rent the tools.

In the future, this section is for Technical write-ups only, not tech questions. Questions are for the "Liberty CRD. . . Love that torque" section.

I replaced the Timing belt without those. The 2 cams gears mesh with each other. Take a white marker pen ( tipex in south africa) and marke the teeth where they mesh. mark ONE of the gears to the rear cover. Mark All of the pulleys to the rear cover. Then when your new belt is in, all the marks should line up.

At the bottom of the cowly there is a small piece that clips out, making it thinner. Right in the middle then there is a Join line from casting. Take a knife and cut that line open. This way you can remove the cowly without removing the intercooler and radiator.

Remove the hoses to the left and right of the cowly top. Pull the cowly up. When it hooks, remove the viscus fan(36mm). When the fan is removed, Pull the cowly up until it hooks. Pull the right side up and out( a bit of twisting, it should not brake). pull the left side out. Remove front cover, lots of 7mm bolts I think.

Refitting is reversal.

I did it in about six hours my first time trying to figure it out and dropping some bolts into the Front diff bracket.

I hope this helps.

I've dropped bolts down in that bracket twice....pain in the butt to get them out.
