Can't comment on the light but if you are cranking to get it started likely you have a fuel leak or an air leak. The fuel pump will purge a little air in the line but not a lot. If it happens as explained every time I would sugges that before you encounter that starting situation the next time pop the hood, pump the primer 5 or 6 times and see if it still cranks. If it doesn't then I would be checking to see that the filter is tight, that you don't have two of the rubber gaskets on the nipple, that if you removed the hoses you got them back on all the way and the clamps tightened, I would check and make sure the plug on the bottome of the filter is tight and I would check to make sure there are no leaks at the heater.
