Well, as the title says my time with my little Tow Piglet is over. I actually didn't want the thing originally, but over the years I came to love her and explain to people yes I tow my trailer & car with it and get 19/20mpg doing.

However, the time has come and I traded her in this afternoon for a 06 F250 Lariat PSD. It would have been nice to NOT have the car payment but my track habit has won and 'made me' upgrade. As others before me have said, without this site I'm not sure I ever would have taken' a liking to my Liberty.

Thanks again guys!

You think Jeep had issues...drive a Ford with that PSD for a while. You couldn't store all the recalls and TSBs on a terabyte hard drive. :) It IS a nice looking truck though.

Agreed the Liberty CRD has its quirks, but the engine is strong and reliable. The 6.0, well good luck with it, I hope you got a winner. 8)

I'd agree with you on the 1st year 6.0's,the 2nd year is pretty good though. Now the 7.3 is a strong runner as my fathers '01 SD is over 770,000 miles now with the original engine and auto trans.

For what I'll do with it, I think (or hope) it'll be on par with the Jeep and its quirks. Supposedly the '06s are suppose to be more reliable, and the 'fixes', just like the Liberty have already been identified. Plus its still has another year or so of Ford Warranty.

BTW, the salesman didn't believe the Liberty was a diesel. Pointed at the badge, he didn't get it, showed him the gas cap, still didn't click until he heard it run.

Have you seen the specs/pics on it yet?

Notice some oddities? Very unique way of setting it up.

Hint the exhaust manifolds and turbo is mounted in that pic.

Nice truck. The later the production year the better for the 6.0's The early ones where rough. But i would guess most of the earlies have all been fixed. Just becareful with tunes and head gaskets. They like to puke coolant if you are tuned too heavy without headstuds.

Nice to see that Ford stepped up to the plate to make its own diesel engine, just wondered why they didn't do an inline? If they made an inline, I would have even considered a Ford diesel. I guess they are going for that car like smoothness?

The new 6.7l is a solid engine, drove a test mule last year and it was very quiet. Ford likes to over engineer their engines for the most part. Lots of fancy technology and a good integrated design...not good for service, but what is these days. The port geometry is reversed so the exhaust manifolds are no in the V of the engine, where the intake of most other engines are. This helps to keep the exhaust hotter so the oxidation catalyst is always converting the HC and CO. It also allows the particulate trap to have a large degree of passive regeneration, so the post injection is not necessary as often. This helps improve fuel economy. The urea system also allows the engine to be tuned for better fuel economy. Review the fuel economy of the new Ford engine vs. the Cummins while towing. Since the Cummins only has a lean NOx trap it requires much more EGR and lean/rich cycles to keep the emissions in check, whereas the Ford just sprays more urea into the exhaust. While towing the Ford can achieve around 18% better fuel economy. Urea system have their own issues, which will become better known after the next year or two.

Yup, been reading up on it, loving the two in one turbo setup, combined with the VGT that sucker should spool quick.

I've also seen some newer diesel designs where the intake was switched to the outside of the V, and the turbo put inside it.

Plus, having such a short manifold run up to the turbo should help it spool quick too. BOOOOOST!

I wont say I am not impressed, being an old Ford man myself. But I still prefer the inline diesel, when they start putting V8 in machines that really have to grunt, like semis, dozers, backhoes, etc, and it has the same longevity. Then I will say the V8 diesel has been perfected, and is better then the inline.

But yeah, Ford put alot of thought into the new engine and tranny. It is going to appeal to the masses that dont like a noisy inline diesel.

Dodge is sitting on a gold mine with the Cummins. Whoever was responsible for that in 1989 was a genius. It's been hilarious ever since watching Ford and GM try and labor in vain to do with 8 cylinders what Dodge has been doing for 21 years with 6 cylinders.

735 lb./ft. from this all-new, built in house, Ford diesel that took them millions worth of money they really don't have to develop it.....and all Dodge has to do next year is flash the ECU on the engine they've had for years and bingo...their 6-cylinder is again trashing Ford and GM with 850 lb./ft. :-)r It's honestly enough to make me laugh out loud. GM and Ford should both be embarassed that they even have V8 diesels at all.

All you gotta' do is go to a county fair around here and watch the daily-driven class diesel truck pulls. The 90s model Cummins trucks wipe the floor with the new, fancy, V8 diesels all night long year after year.

The 6.7 Cummins is not anything like the 5.9.The 5.9 was a much better engine.

I've never been a fan of inline engines,to many issues that you do not have with a "V" engine.I have a fond attachment for the Detroit 8V92TA,now that is a engine.
