Just drove a '11 Ford F350 today with the new 6.7 PS with the 6 speed auto.

All I got to say is where do I sign, whisper quiet, massive torque, and still rode like a truck but more refined.Super tight turning, was driving a crewcab/long box 4wd,better then my KJ.

Priced one out.........

F350
regular cab/longbox
4wd
6 speed auto
snow plow package
gooseneck ball package(welded on at factory)
trailer tow package(with in dash controller)
3.55 gears and electronic locking rear diff
power group(power windows/locks and keyless entry)
black/steel color combo
steel 17" rims
cloth seats(no power) and no carpet

---$38,000 out the door

Giving it about 1 year to get any bugs worked out and I'll be buying a '12,I was very impressed.

Start stocking up on the Exhaust Fluid for that wonderful SCR. Got to love the EPA!!

As I understand it they've been using that exhaust fluid in heavy trucks in europe for a while now. Also been reading it's basically cheap and packaging and markup is what makes it expensive. So Wally's should be stocking it when there's more demand for it :SOMBRERO:

I got to see cut-away versions of the truck and engine at the Homestead race in NOV.
I must say that I found the turbo setup and intercooler to be unique and interesting but
the 6+ feet of exhaust scrubbing seemed overly complicated AND expensive.

Kinda makes you long for the good-ol-days where all you had was and EGR and CAT.

BTW- When will the mnfrs start using liners in these blocks?

Also- What happens when you run out of urea?
(a serious question, I dont think pissing in the tank will work as well as some think)

When you run out of Urea, the truck won't start and/or operates in a very limited limp home mode. You will see warning messages for quite a time before it's actually empty.

I've owned them all,Ford,Dodge, and Chevy and the Fords have always been the better pickups. My fathers '01 7.3 PS has over 780,000miles on the original engine and trans,we will see how the new 6.7 fairs but it's supposed to be a good one.

What is the advantage of buying urea solution from the dealer or auto parts store over making it yourself?

have you driven any of the new 2010 hd dodge's. They ride very nice. I almost traded my 06 in. Best deal I was offered was 10k off of sticker. $41k is not bad for a laramie 4x4 dually. I have looked at the new ford's, but they are too expensive, almost $60k for lariat dually, and none of the dealers want to deal on them yet. I am waiting to see how this transition period goes with Fiat Chrysler before I buy another Chrysler product.

Yep I driven one,it was okay but nothing like the new Ford's.Plus they have to much interior junk and no near the options the Ford's have as far as getting the gooseneck ball mount welded on at the factory which is important, more so when it cost's only $370.The turning radius is far greater in the Dodge also.

I guess all the Chevy VS. Ford goes back to Grandaddy. He was also Chevy and is kinda what i grew up with. But ya the 7.3 was the best Ford has ever had. As far as owning one now would I? No...Again i grew up Chevy and always ragged about Fords! But ill see how far this 6.7 goes...Ford could of gotten it right this time!

The 7.3 was a more reliable engine, but it smelled HORRIBLE, was weak, and was poor on fuel economy. The Cummins of the same era completely destroyed it in every category.

The 6.0 was a total disaster.

The 6.4 was slightly better and FINALLY had some real diesel power, but the fuel economy was similar to the V10 which made it a waste of $6,000 unless you towed every day.

So will the 6.7 save Ford? Time will tell. But for the 2011 model year, Dodge is still the most reliable choice to go with. You never want to buy a first year product...especially when it costs as much as 50% of a lot of folks' mortgages. Buying the Ford this year would be risky.

LibertyCRD, that was a nice informative write up. I owned a few of the 7.3 engines myself, and they were good engines, yet lacking to the Cummins.

The 7.3 smelled like any other diesel and had plenty of power. My fathers tows 20,000lbs and the only mod is a true 5" straight pipe from the turbo to the rear(no muffler,no chip,no bio diesel, and dino 15w40 every 5k) and pulls it without issue. It also gets 22mpg's unloaded(very rare not to have a trailer on it) and will get 16-17mpgs at 65mph with 20,000lbs in tow(when I drive it) but with my father driving it's more like 10-12mpg's at 85-90mph.Must be why all his buddies have traded in there Dodges and Chevy's for Fords with the 7.3 PS,they couldn't pull as much and get that mileage. One of his buddies with the 6.6 Duramax traded fast after his 3rd engine in 150,000miles.Without mods the Dodges couldn't hang with him, still have yet to see a Cummins in one of those Dodges with over 300k(personally),let alone with the same auto trans.

I'll give you one for the 6.0 PS,the 6.4 was great and would pull like no tomorrow but only ever got 10mpg's loaded or unloaded.

The Cummins 6.7 is a flop, old tech engine with new tech electronics = fail. The new auto trans is great though, now they just need the old 12v 5.9 with no electronics to mate it to. The Cummins is not the "almighty" engine it once was and is plagued by severe overheating issues.Priced what I wanted in a Dodge and would be $46,000 and still have to add another $3000 to get everything I can get on the Ford right from the factory and covered under full warranty also. For $38,000 for the Ford I only have to add $600(my cost, not even close to retail) for some decent "E" tires.

Why Dodge and Chevy don't make there's either.

That's an easy one. Too many people remember the 70's era noisy, smelly, difficult-to-start, inefficient diesels that the big three had the nerve to foist on us back then. Bad reputations travel fast and still linger in the minds of many, as we have seen in some of the above posts. So if any of the big three want to market a diesel, it's a lot easier for them to do so if they state that the diesel is made by someone else; Mercedes, VM Motori, Volkswagen, Audi (soon), MTU, Deutz, Cummins, Caterpillar, Mitsubishi, and the list goes on. Remember, if they want to build a diesel, they have to sell it, and in light of past mistakes as well as anti-diesel attitudes in North America, selling domestic diesels might well be a money-losing option.

Dean.
