Hello all: Couple of questions. What are your RPMs at 70 mph? Mine are 2K which seems to be high but not sure. Also, what happens when you let off the throttle while cruising at 70? Does your transmission disengage (sorry if using the wrong terminology) immediately? Mine engine brakes down to around 50-55 mph before disengaging and allowing the truck to coast. However, if I put the selector in nuetral, it coasts well.

I really have no complaints, just wondering...

Thanks! Mike

Keep in mind that at that speed the stock speedo is high by about 3.5 to 4 mph. When I am at 2000 rpm in high gear, I am going between 66 and 68 mph via GPS.

What you're describing is the torque converter lock-up. It stays locked up until you slow down enough for it to shift out of 4th lock-up, then the rpm's drop down to a little above idle speed while the TCM waits on throttle position input from your right foot. That's why, if the torque converter is unlocked, when you then press the accelerator again, the engine will rev a little before settling into gear again. This is normal behavior.

Oh, and you need to change your signature - sounds like you already joined the CRD family!

I love the engine braking of a diesel, but wish my CRD & TDI had a jake brake. Go drive a TDI with a manual tranny and feel the braking force when you let off the padel. If you want to coast put it in neutral. If your careful you won't use the brake to slow down and help the life of your brakes. This requires your TC to stay locked in an automatic or you might as well be in neutral.
