first off i burnt the doo doo out of myself on the ac line on top of the radiator is this a clue to my ac failing because at idle theirs no chirping till i turn my ac on but at throttle it stops. when i use my stethoscope i cant 't really hear the chirping i'm lost hope someone else has had this unfortunate problem.

Most likely the tesnioner is failing. With the engine running and AC off watch the tensioner, then have someone turn on the AC while your watching the tensioner. If the tensioner starts jerking it's bad.Good time to replace the belt at the same time.

Actually it's probably not the tensioner. It's probably the alternator decoupler pulley. It's like a $55 part at moparpartsamerica.com.

if your talking about the pulley under the alternator i just replaced that because thats what i thought was making the noise at first

The decoupler pulley, is the alternator pulley itself. It has inside a one-way overrunning friction clutch so that when the engine stops abruptly the inertia of the alternator spinning doesn't turn the pulley inside the belt and squeak.

If you see reddish dust on the front of the alternator decoupler pulley, it is a good signal that it is failing.

is this a common problem? it seems like i have read in a few different places on here about that pulley failing, are the new pulleys any better? is there anything we can do to prolong the life of the pulley, just curious, mine has some red dust on the front of the pulley right now i just checked but no chirp yet.

My bet it is the tensioner and this is what you can do.
1.) Start it and let it go to a normal idle speed.
2.) Turn on AC, listen for chirp, turn off AC, listen for chirp to dissipate
3.) Turn on lights and other electrical drags, listen for chirp (but it will be less), turn off lights and stuff and see if sound dissipates.
4.) Now turn on everything, including the AC, it should sound like it is falling apart with belt drag coming from both the alternator and the compressor.
5.) Resume normal operation with everything off, it should be much quieter.
6.) You have likely discovered it is time to do a routine maintenance on your tensioner, idler pulleys and serpentine belt.

My $.02
Good luck,
Boilermaker2
