![]() Are the Acid Head Hippies and the TSA agents happy or sad that Loctite got around their stupid dangerous chemicals regulations? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Once I was harassed by a TSA agent in Philly International for having a unopened bottle of Loctite 2760 in with my checked tool box. They confiscated it before my luggage could be loaded onto the plane. |

I do. I had to fly from Florida to Vermont a number of years ago to work on the family minivan that was having problems, then drive it back to Fl while the family members that had been using it flew to Scotland for a ballet show tour. Try getting a 75lb cardboard-encased (stupid airline idea and demand for a plastic tool box) past the TSA now. Good luck! This was before the TSA and before Sept 11, but I still had to argue with them about checking it. (I did want it checked) Amazingly, didn't pay anything for the weight however. |

When I wrecked my Rubicon in New Mexico I had to fly back to Austin with all my gear/tools. Made it back with with all the pointy sharp objects but they put a note in the bag saying they took my WD40. |

I am pretty sure this has little to do with acid heads or whatever the crap is warp keeps spouting in every post lately. Because the backage compartment is unpressurized, any vessel that contains a solvent isn't allowed on an aircraft due to the fact that the container is generally designed to contain the substance at sea level. In an unpressurize compartment at altitude, there is a possibility of bottle or can leaking through the lid, or the bottle or aerosol can rupturing. Release of a flammable substance could result in a fire or explosion. Airplane have enough to worry about. There are means to transport chemicals by plane, but only on cargo planes. The must be packaged in a very specific way as to minimize the chance of leaking or releasing vapors. The volume per container is also limited. Some things can't be shipped by air period. In those cases, the options are by land or by sea. I think Loctite simply came up with an innovative product form. Anyone ever get a drop of tape on their clothes and ruin them? ...or forget to tighten the lid sufficiently only to have their tape dry up? ...or accidentally knock their tape over and have it spill everywhere? |

I checked two rifles with ammo after 9/11 without a hitch. Probably didn't hurt that some active duty marines were on the flight and also checked weapons.
