I have an ABS light that comes on randomly, but always comes on after about 80 miles driving on the highway. When this happens the odometer freezes and refuses to work. Later when I shut the jeep off and let it sit for a awhile, everything is fine, the odometer even reads the current miles. The light stays off (most of the time) when I am running around town on short trips. I noted from other posts this may be caused by a wire shorting that leads to the right rear tire. My question is, how do I check/replace this? Do I pull the seats in the jeep or is it underneath along the frame? Anyone have any pictures? Should I go get a manual to see how to do this? The light is driving me nuts! :banghead:

Do you have a 2005 or a 2006? The rear sensors are different between years. On my 2005 I would get a similar thing if I did a really rowdy burnout where the rear tires spun for more than a few seconds. I think this confuses the computer and the ABS light came on and the odometer froze until the next startup. Maybe one of your rear sensors (there is only one on the 2005) gets hot on a long trip and goes open circuit.

This is common. The rear speed sensor is not communicating. Since it's intermittent, it's probably the connector. (The sensor is on the top of the "pumpkin".) When it fails or is not connected, the red "brake" light goes on on the lower left of the instrument panel along with the ABS light on the upper right and the odometer "freezes". BTW, the speedometer still works and the ABS still works on the front wheels, just not the back.

Sorry to dredge this post up.. I have a similar issue and wondering if this "common" issue can carry over to gassers too? I assume it can since this part should be fairly similar. I have an 02 with only front abs but my abs and parking brake light comes on intermittently but whats strange is the speedometer does not freeze it pegs up to 60/70/80 and then comes back down. This can happen when driving forward at any speed or even when in reverse backing into my garage.

Thanks for any and all help.

-Nick

One other thing to add, I did a quick search for some sort of part and came up with this: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... &ppt=C0033

I may try and just re-seat the electrical cable and see if that fixes it. If not it would be nice to get some sort of confirmation that replacing this part would do the trick..

Thanks,

-Nick
