Hi there you lovely Jeep people!

I just picked up a 2005 Liberty 2.8 CRD. It's got 150k miles, and overall it seems to be very well maintained.
I have a couple of questions...

Unbeknownst to me at the time of purchase, it turns out the owner before the guy I bought it from had already gotten rid of the EGR and FCV. Upon reading here it seems that's actually a good thing.... BUT- I guess he didn't tune it, so now I have an EGR code and therefore a CEL.

Where do I start here? I have no tuning experience.. Can I still find and access a tune that gets rid of the codes? Or am I gonna have to "reverse-install" an EGR that I don't even have.... haha

Regardless... I'm gonna have to get rid of those codes one way or another.

Also - I'm obviously planning on getting the timing belt and water pump replaced, since I'm not taking any chances with that...
Is that tool kit necessary for that job? Even for a (diesel) shop? Trying to figure out if it's really worth the $150 for something that's most likely just gonna get done once.

Can't wait to see what you all have to say!
Thanks

Be sure and read and study Sam's CRD Noob Guide:, it contains a wealth of information for new owners.
As to a tune to get rid of DTC's for the EGR & FCV, there are some DIY tunes on this forum at:> DIY ECU Flash
or
Contact Marco Giacomelli ada "Yeti" on this forum. He can provide you with a custom tune to eliminate the DTC's and add a little extra power if you want it.
You can also find him over on FaceBook:> Yeti ChipTuning di Giacomelli Marco
He is the GOTO guy when it comes to tunes....

Got more questions, just ask! :JEEPIN:

The tools are necessary if you wish to do the job properly & not have problems soon after.
You can make them if you are good with that sort of thing.
Turn down a couple of bolts & join a piece of rod to a bolt.
I was going to make my own but a kit turned up for sale.
Probable some where on the site are the instructions to make the tools.

There used to be cheap (like $40) Chinese tbelt kits available online. Not something you'd want if you were using them regularly but for the DIYer who only needs them once every 5 years or so they are a reasonable alternative. Certainly better than going without. There also used to be places which would rent a tool set, with a deposit. I'd want to have something, at least the cam locking pins when doing this job.
