This is for those of you who are wanting to hide a constantly burning CEL if you've done something stupid and can't get rid of the code with a scanner.

I removed the entire instrument cluster and filled the CEL hole with a piece of black plastic that i shaped to fit snugly. From the front, you cannot even notice that the
hole has been covered over, unless you're a LOST member and know a bit about CEL's :ROTFL:

No more CEL visible :pepper: although i know she's burning in the background it's far better than replacing the ECU like the dealer wanted to :banghead:
or for those of you who have pulled your MAF and are clearing the CEL with a scanner all the time

I once had an Isuzu pickup that was programed for the CEL to come on at 90,000 miles. It did just as programed. Nothing was wrong. I took the dash apart, and broke the damned bulb. No CELs no more.

I wouldn't attempt that with the Jeep as you'll probably end up with a totally sparse cluster devoid of any warning or check lights by breaking the circuitry.

What happens when you have a real problem? Will it just burn to the ground...

You have to know your vehicle inside and out to do this and feel some sort of security.

As in the case of the Isuzu, it was a basic dash and barely had a speedometer. No bells and whistles, but I hear you GDE.

you do understand that there were vehicles before CEL's existed... and not all of them burned to the ground.....

there were even vehicles before computers....... I'll even go so far as to say the only transistors on my 67 Camaro - were in the radio.....

That's the oldest used car dealership trick in the book! But like others have said it could hide impending danger. If you take care to make sure your vehicle is well maintained you may be fine blocking it off but if you have... well the worst luck in the world like me, it's probably not a good idea.

Easy, my error code is a P0610 - incorrect vehicle coding meaning it doesn't know if it's a manual or an auto, that's not going to effect the running of the vehicle.

Every now and then i check for errors with the scanner over and beyond the P0610 which cannot be cleared.

My Isuzu Trooper get the same alert CEL signal at 130,000Km, It indicate you to replace the oxygen sensor! To reset the CEL light you just

Remove instrument cluster.
Remove masking tape from hole (B) .
Remove screw from hole (A) and install into hole (B) .
Apply new masking tape to hole (B).
Install instrument cluster.

Cover the CEL on your CRD only if your suicidal incline! Or you have to much money in your pocket
