| Post subject: | My Turbo's Dead?!? Crakcked? Not Connected? |
Hi Guys, Just got back form a big trip from across the Alpine National Park Victoria Australia. The truck was like a dream the whole trip even in the 40 degree weather! Though I managed to get the temp gague over 3/4 and then this other fan kicked in making a big whurring noise which promptly cooled it back down to half way. On the way home (once I hit Melbourne CBD) I noticed I had half the power for some reason? I put it down to being a very hot day and thought nothing of it. THe next day taking the truck out for a wash with the windows down and noticed the Turbo hissing it's head off under excelleration but wasn't providing me with any power. I'm basically (it seems?) running off the diesel portion of the engine and the turbo's hisssing away(very loudly) for no benifit. I checked some hoses thinking something attached to the turbo had come off but I couldn't find a thing. I didn't get under neath the engine bay tho. Any idea's? I thought if I could be instructed to check something before taking it to the dealer it would make life easier. Regards, Brett |

I have read about ruptured intercooler hoses on this and other boards, based on what you say it sound like that is your problem. |

Either that or a intercooler hose popped off. |

I had a similar problem the other day. Although abient and engine temperature was not the issue. It was only 40F outside and the engine temp was reading normal. I was getting little or no power from the engine, but I could hear the turbo hissing. When I stopped to investigate the problem, I noticed that the Auto Tranny dipstick had popped out of it's home and was hanging about 6 inches or so out. I reseated the tranny dipstick and parked the vehicle. When I returned later in the day, the engine behaved normally. I haven't seen the issue return, but I've set an appointment with the dealer's transmittion guys to take a look at things. Might as well use the warranty while I have it. It seems to have been fishing for the right gear at around 45-50 MPH anyway and I wonder if there is some wierd back pressure issue that caused the dipstick to come loose, and a safety catch in the KJ's computer that told it not to allow upper gears or limited revs????? I'm confused, and I'll let you know what the dealer says, if anything. |

| Post subject: | update: nothing to report |
I took my KJ into the dealership today to have them diagnose Monday's issue of power loss and tranny dipstick popping off. The dealership found nothing. Additionally, it has been bahaving fine ever since. Hoped I would be able to give you some ideas from my experience, but..... nothing to report. |

My CRD also has the tranny dipstick popping out ocaisionally! I don't know why and the dealer didn't come up with anything. He also said nobody else has reported this kind of problem either. I'm kinda glad I'm not the only one. Maybe we can fiqure it out and report it to the forum for other owners. |

The probable cause is from vibration and it is just shaking loose, my old MB would do it untill is messed with the tensioner in the top of the stick. Heck I seen some with dipstick (oil & tranny) wired in when all that was required was a new stick or tweeking the tension on the cap. I'm not sure if ours is doing it or not I will check when it get back to the house. Wife and daughter don't let any grass grow under the Jeep.
