How long do you all leave the key to the on position before you start it. I need to leave mine on well after the glow plug light turns off. This happens even after i've driven around town a bit and ran into a store. Sometimes it turns over, starts and then "chokes" until it stalls. Any advice that I can do. I plan on taking it to the "Stealer" as soon as I get time. I was just wondering if I was doing something wrong? Thanks!!!! |

You should be able to start it as soon as the glow plug light goes out. Indeed, sounds like you have some problems that need dealership attention. |

An off hand guess from the sound of it - it starts up, then chokes (ie, rough running, misfiring), and dies - might be getting some air in the fuel line from a loose connection. When I changed the fuel filter on mine, I went thru the priming-and-vent procedure several times, but there will still be some air in the lines. When i first cranked it, it ran fine for about 15 seconds, then spent about 15 or 20 seconds bucking, jumping, and missing until it had purged all the air out of the fuel lines, then smoothed out and ran fine. |

I don't want to do much work, so are you saying take it in?? retmil46 wrote: An off hand guess from the sound of it - it starts up, then chokes (ie, rough running, misfiring), and dies - might be getting some air in the fuel line from a loose connection.

Definitely, I'd take it in. Just offering an offhand opinion of what it MIGHT be. Best to let them check it out anyway on the first occurrence, in case it is something serious, that way it's documented for warranty purposes. If it turns out to be something simple, ie a loose hose clamp that you could fix in the driveway in less than 5 minutes, at least now you'll know for sure what it is and next time can take care of it yourself. When in doubt, always cover your assets. |

"Cover your assets..." that's good! Definitely take it in. Might be some bad fuel. I had a similar experience in Philly when I was up there around Thanksgiving. Temp dropped to about 10 overnight after I had filled up quite a bit south. Started it up the next morning and it took a little extra cranking, then caught, sputtered like a drowning fish while belching smoke. Then it smoothed out and never happened again. I chalked it up to untreated (no antigel) fuel. But I was scheduled to take it in right after the trip anyway. They changed all the filters and the oil and didn't see anything. But peace of mind is PRICELESS! I would take it in. |
