 If Thunderbirdjunkie installs a winch/bumper and get's those rails on and pulls on side of me doing 40,he's going to end up swimming in a cloud of diesel smoke.  Granted I were running on more than one cylinder,and he doesn't engauge his top secret "Gilacopter Mod".Diesel Envy at it's finest. |

They don't like diesels - I don't like gassers I've never seen any discussion that even focuses on facts. and I've never seen anyone 'win' an internet argument. |

I have no problems with diesels. I think they are pretty cool. I would love the mpg's and torque of the CRD, BUT I have poked my nose over here a few times and it seems like there are A LOT of things that need to be done to the CRD engine to get it to perform. I believe that was what the original debate was about 3.7L vs CRD. I'm not a fanboy of either engine and didn't even know about the CRD until after I bought my KJ. It would be cool to hear if any of the US CRD guys bought their Libby's did nothing to the engine and have had no problems. |

there are lot's of CRD folks who run stock, never have problems and have never heard of LOST. I see them because I look for CRD's and talk to people. |

When you consider that the CRD is a huge minority among all the the other KJs sold in the US, and consider that internet forums are where people go to find help with a problem and to complain about their problems, it would seem that the CRD is a POS. But the reality is there are far more CRD owners than are represented on the Jeep forums. And they must be really happy and content, otherwise they would be HERE complaining.  I have not had any problems with my CRD. Yes, I have done some mods, but those were all preventative measures and all for less than $300.

Yeah, I am not going to waste my time debating people with old technology, low torque, gas guzzling, spark ignition vehicles, isn't that what the model T had in it? If gassers are so great, I wonder why they don't use them in commercial trucks? |

Now that Audi has won the 24 hours of LeMans with diesel short of top fuel funny cars there is NO automotive application that diesel isnt superior to gas!!! |

Diesel will always win! Seeing old mercedes going for 8k plus I mean the old ones! While gasser goes $1000 that's 8 times more money for diesel. On reason why I choose diesel yes it cost $8000k more than gasser I could have purchased new gas $19k and diesel ODO $27. These CRD may get cult status and see prices go up. I cant really see them selling for less than $10k ever. With my Kia soul I bought if the diesel was an option you better belive I would have got it 55mpg in UK. Crd diesel is beefier than standard lib, 5sp HD tranny, modding diesel is easier for more easy power. No brainer on which is better. But better comes at cost $$$$ |

Having spent alot of time behind the wheel of both, I am not even going to go here in detail...... The 3.7 is an ok engine (they should have put it in the JK instead of that stupid minivan motor) good pick-up, good high RPM performance. Low fuel economy (I get about 12 around town in the gaser and 20 in the CRD, narrows on the highway to 25 to 28) I consider this a benefit of the torque. |

On my trip back from Evansville, IN which included some in town stop and go driving along with back roads, expressway, and divided high way in 100f heat, I got 34 MPG. Of course I need to thank the Local Police, County Sheriffs, and State Police of both Indiana and Illinois for forcing me to get 34 MPG with my InMotion Stage 2 tune.  Could not have done it with out them Try to get that out of a gasser. |

From the point of view of an aspiring technician with an associates in diesel technology, and someone aiming at masters in Tribology, it is not fair to compare any NA engine to a turbo engine, or any DI engine to a IDI engine. Add in the fact that ATSM #2 ULS Diesel has a BTU content of at least 140,000 (normally 147,000) and average gasoline has a BTU of 125,000/gal. There is pretty much no conversation to be had. Consider that we have no intake restriction, unlike a gasser with a throttle body. Consider a I4 vs a v6 (where the inline has crank throws more in line with fuel ignition and timing characteristics of the "Diesel Cycle") lower pumping losses as well. Consider the lengthy, continuous and multi injection pulse capabilities of modern fuel injection systems. It's just not fair. I wonder how the "Ford" bi turbo DI gasser will fare? personally I find it exciting. I might buy one. I hear they even ignite the fuel AFTER the piston hits TDC unlike current gassers. What a interesting idea! |
