Hey everyone, I've been following this forum for about a month now while researching the Libby CRD to decide if I want to buy one. I found the various noob threads to be very helpful, and I think I am sold. I am going to test drive a 2006 CRD tomorrow or the next day at a local dealership. I was wondering if there are any warning signs I should look out for while checking out the vehicle. Also, is there any significant difference between the 05 and 06 models that is worth noting? 06 has ESP standard. Check for signs of a failing torque converter and see have the dealer run a report on it. Then determin if the TC has been replaced within the last year  If soyou most likely have the "Euro" version and should be good to go.Be advised the timing belt needs replaced at 100k miles and is a major expense

Its around 78,000. My hope, with the diesel engine, is that it will get well over 200,000 miles. |

The Carfax didn't say anything about the TC being replaced, though, I'm not sure that it would report that. I will ask the dealer though. |

I am a true squid compared to the collective CRD knowledge on this board, but I might suggest getting a VIN number and trying to get the service history from a dealership, then never go to the dealer again. The Liberty requires more fundamental knowledge of automotive function to maintain and operate than say a Honda, but so far I have to say it has been a very positive experience. Take her for a good test drive, get a feel for it, it is a unique driving experience. And it can haul 5k pounds and get good mileage! |

There are many problems with the Jeep and Chrysler. Print out the problems off this forum such as it needing a lift pump, fuel filter head, egr valve problems, transmission problems, window regulator problems and trust me you will have window regulator failures. Then go to the dealer with this info and confront them with it. Get a better price or make them give you an extended warranty. Other than that it seems to be an OK vehicle but a pre 2006 dodge diesel truck or pre 2003 ford will give you close to the same mileage with a whole lot more vehicle for the money. |

Don't you be hating now, even if you are 100% correct. If you keep the windows up when it rains and do not spill beer on the switches, no problems with the windows here. You did not mention the springs that went flat on me at 20K miles. I have 80k miles now and am in a dilemma about keeping my CRD. Everything has been done and it runs like a top. I love it. But in 20K miles will I be able to get the parts to do the water pump, timing belt, alternator and pulleys? Will I be able to afford to drive over to Green Diesel Engineering to get the work done? |

I hear you man. I am at 93k and dreading the timing belt change. Its an fun vehicle to drive minus Chryslers engineering. This forum has been invaluable for me and my jeep. All four of my window regulators were replaced twice each under warranty and two are broke now propped up with wooden dowels.

Look up the old posts (circa 2006 and beyond) and do a bunch of reading. One of our most contributing members GMCTD is no longer with us but his wisdom lives on in both the LOST forum and several Dodge Cummins Forums. Besides, he was not a Kool Aid Drinker and preferred well crafted brews, like I still do. |
