Innova 3160 does NOT work on ALL KJ CRDs. (I have one.) However, the Innova 3030 does for engine codes and is much cheaper. Oddly, my 3160 works to pull ABS codes and clear them on the CRD, but that's it. I'd get the 3160 if you can return it for a full refund if it won't pull engine codes for you. Unfortunately, there is nothing I have found that is affordable that pulls trans codes.

It looks like the OP has an 06, even GDE was having problems with his scan tool dealing with 05s, there must be a difference in the 2 OBD systems. BTW GDE worked out the problem with the 05. Maybe the OP should get the GDE scan tool and he will get more bang for his buck, plus easy updates.

I bought an Innova 3160 today and had no luck with it pulling ABS codes. I got either a timeout error or a "cannot communicate with ABS system" error when I used it.

Can anyone recommend a Code Scanner that can read the ABS system. Too many shops want to charge me 90-120 dollars for a diagnostic scan and I'd just rather buy my own scanner but want to find one that actually works with an 06 CRD.

Thanks!!

The EPA or who ever only mandates that engine codes be openly available :jester: So things like the transmission, body controler and others require a the correct Chrysler tool or a expensive one.

The 06 model year ECM on the CRD's use CAN data bus that the 05 didn't.

The 05 CRD's use the Chrysler DRB tool and 06 uses Chrysler's Star Scan. This only complicates things more for the 14,000 of us in North America who owne a Liberty CRD :dizzy:

For just reading and clearing engine codes, I bought a cheap $30.00 scanner. Works fine with my 06.

Well those start at about $3000 before adding the correct software. If you go that rought I would highly recommend the Snapon Verus, the best out there right now that with the correct software can ne used as any OEM scanner with full functions, starts at $9000.

Found a shop that was able to scan my ABS system. They did it for free but I tipped the mechanic 40 bucks for his time. There are shops out there that can do the ABS scan without you having to go to a dealership. The trick is to find one that one rip you off with a high minimum diagnostic fee.

One of the wires leading to a wheel sensor broke right at the point it goes into the plug that connects to the wheel sensor. I couldn't salvage the plug so I soldered the wires directly to the sensor and sealed it nice and good with liquid tape and heat shrink tubing. ESP, cruise, ABS are back and working as they should!
