The issue of oil rotting the CAC hoses seems pretty well documented, but I just had an issue with oil/vapor from the CCV ruining the Clean Air Intake hose. The hose tore right where the hose clamp attached to the turbo intake due to all that oily poop coming out of the CCV. I looked in the hose right where the CCV hose dumped into it and the interior was coated with oil and very soft (duh, it tore on it's own.) I had been driving my new ride for about three weeks when I when one day I heard a whistling that wasn't just turbo whine and was looking around down there. Sure enough, there was a tear about half the circumference of the hose letting in nice, unfiltered California CARB-approved air. I'm glad I caught it! Now I realize how important it is to watch those CAC hoses... |

I had the same problem with my turbo intake hose. I have temporarily wrapped mine with ExtremeTape to seal the tear. |

The new hose was not very expensive--$50 or so. Easy fix. |

For $50 I am not gonna blow my $5000 engine this winter. I can buy alot of hoses for that money. And this has yet to be proven that oil is gonna rot the hose, who has a CRD that has never had a drop of oil go through the hose with over 200K on the hose. That is the proof I want to see. Another thing is how many hoses ever split at any distance from the clamp, that would be the most stressful part of the hose to flex. |

My air intake hose was rotted and split apart at the bottom right were it connects to the turbo about 3 weeks ago i noticed it when the turbo was sounding different than normal. I just bought the jeep only 2 months ago so the dealership i bought it from covered the cost and i put it in of course. it has been cracked for a while, the entire hose ripped right off at 54,000 which is when i noticed it. |

Hmm, what a coincidence? Does that mean that is the only part of the hose that ever sees oil? ![]() |

I don't think the intake hose is under a lot of bending stress because it is pre-formed with two 45 degree turns in it to get it to the filter box. IMHO, the oil/vapor is totally to blame...but not anymore...long live the EHM! ![]() |

If you move to Florida you wont have to worry about your EHM freezing up. ![]() There are lots of other New Yorkers here. You will feel right at home. And the best part is, no annual emissions/safety inspections. ![]() |

Reading this thread got me thinking, which is often dangerous...what if the hose from the CCV was disconnected from the turbo inlet hose and the turbo inlet hose was plugged. Would that not be the same as the EHM and would not trigger the CEL? |

Yes, but you still need to run a hose from the CCV puck somewhere below the vehicle, or your gonna have oil splattered all over the top of your engine! Dave |
