I never worry about new ones. Just clean up the old one and put a beat of RTV around it and use it again.

Race,

I just did my first oil change with the Fumoto valve. It was just too easy. The drain lines up perfectly with the hole in the skid. . . zero mess.

TJ2,

I just might go that route.

Just anneal and reuse the old one. Heat it up until it's dull red then quench it in cold water.

Quenching metal in cold water tends to harden it. If you want it to be soft, let it air cool.

That's a very general statement which, in fact, doesn't apply to all metals of which copper is one.

18 MM is too big.

I bought a bag of them and they fit sloppy, the original crushed washer slides on tight.

I think it's either a 16 or 17MM.

I've re-used the old one for 100,000 miles never did anything to it, it still works, don't over complicate a simple washer.

I'd guess 16 mm because I bought an assortment of copper washers at HF. The largest ones in the assortment didn't fit- they were 5/8". I could not find any metric ones. :(
