I'm on my 3rd year with a CAT fuel filter conversion and I've never had such an on going issue.

The scenario is after running Jeep up to temp on a 20+ minute drive and letting it sit for between 1-4 hrs. it will start but immediately but immediately after putting it into gear will stall. I can pop the hood and prime the fuel filter then get it to restart with a couple extra cranks and have no issues, or air in fuel lagging.

If I let the Jeep sit and have a full cool down it doesn't stall. I've checked the puck and see no cracks or leaks, I replaced the brass bleeder valve conversion from lubricationspecialist w/ a new one from Home Depot because the old handle came loose. I bleed the air after installing the new part a couple weeks ago and am still having this issue. This is the 3rd CAT fuel filter I've had installed on the Jeep and after the initial bleeding process and getting the air bubbles out I never had an air in fuel issue after the first week.

I change the filter every Labor day weekend, so if the issue continues with the next fuel filter besides eventually installing a lift pump any other ideas for fixing this problem?

Also I do remember a thin, flat rubber ring seal on top of the puck has anyone replaced this? Thanks.

are you sure the problem is fuel and not the tranny?

I have seen my wifes stall just after starting..it acted just like the manual car in gear while stopping. then it stalled.
how many miles and have you changed the tranny fluid?

I'm at 58K I'm going to change trans filters and flush tranny when I come back from my current CA vacay. Interesting thought, but the primer pump is soft and it is harder to restart even as I restart the motor it takes a couple extra cranks to fire up. I'm going to pro-actively pump the primer until firm in these situations and try to figure it out after I change my fuel filter this Fall.

Mine has the same symptoms. It is like the torque converter is staying locked up. This never happens with the car is cold, and only after it has sat an hour or so. But ours would not stall out immediately, but when applying the brake it would stall out. I can tell you it is no fun to press the brake down while approaching a stop sign, only to have the car keep pushing. Only giving it all the brake we can will stop it, and stall out the engine. We have learned just to give it a minute or two after we start it to get moving.

My wife came home today and told my the jeep "stalled when I tried to stop" The jeep had been off all day so should have been total cooled down, and she said it was within the first mile after start up. She also said it did similar yesterday but did not completely stall the engine out. This sounds similar to the last post. Anyone know what may be up? Just purchased the vehicle and have only had time to clean MAP and do ORM so no idea when last fuel filter, or transmission fluid change was.

Did she have to stand on the brake to get it to stop? Like the engine was still pulling it forward?
Or did it just die?

In the first case it sounds transmission related, in the second case it sounds fuel related.

See my post above yours

There is a TSB that replaces a faulty transmission filter. This helps some, but not 100%.

It has been at times when first started also been very sluggish moving while in reverse, will be doing the check valve mod soon hopefully it may help the stalling problem also. I checked the transmission fluid level right after my wife got home when she told me about the problem, so the engine was still hot. The fluid level was about 1/2 inch above the Hot fluid level holes. I've read that overfull Engine oil very bad for these little guys ( my CRD ) so maybe that is part of it? The wife said she didnt really have to push the brake any harder to get it to stop. ( Big relief there ) Also... I noticed my A/C wasn't working last night, shut it down and restarted then the A/C blew cold. read another place about how the A/C compressor going out made it stall when braking. lol that makes me laugh but its what they said and I'm not ruling anything out. Oh and my dog did its business in the back seat, maybe the Libby is rebelling not sure... That's everything I can think of that may help in figuring this thing out.

Look at flman's tranny fix in the tech section....
This is the "character" (flaw?) of this vehicle and you either drive it the way it wants to be driven or you due flman's trick.
