Post subject:  "added care plus" warranty on crd?

so im just about done signing the papers on the 06 crd with 71k miles on it, and the dude offers a "factory" warranty for an additional 6yrs/70k miles. He says the crd is eligible because it is under 80k. cost:$1486. also an option for 3yrs 30k or something like that. told him i would think about it. he says offer is good for 24 hours. Now i wouldn't mind getting a warranty. hoping to get the torque converter swapped for euro model and timing belt done at 100k. would these things likely be covered under warranty.(gonna have to induce shudder somehow on current TC cause it dont exist as of now). Also which mods might void warranty. wanna do Provent, TCM tune, lift pump, samco hoses, lift, and maybe a couple more. thanks
p.s. comes with 60 day unlimited mile warranty. any chance of getting TC done under that.

All I know is when I bought mine, I got a 1,000 mile warranty and that's all. 24 hours later my CAC hose busted and both hoses were replaced at a local dealership for $500. Thank God I had the warranty and it happened when it did.

Any warranty you can get on a CRD is worth it. Torque converters, glow plugs, EGRs, CAC hoses, etc...all that stuff is prone to die at any time and this stuff is EXPENSIVE! Even a simple t-stat is $100 for these things. Warranty will pay for itself on these rigs.

Who is issuing the warranty?
I don't normally buy them on cars but got the Chrysler gold for 7/70 when I got mine new. It was $2500. But today I got it all back with a new steering rack. Warranty charge was almost $800 and my deductable is $100 per trip. Last trip they replaced the torque converter, front pump in the transmission and rear glass strutts. Near $1800 and my $100 deductable.

So now the warranty has paid for it's self and I still have 2 years and 8 months or 33k miles left.

But the warranty is no better then the company backing it up. A trick third party insurers play is to sell the servicing responsability to another company and that one goes broke  Also make sure you know and understand what it does and more importantly does not over :seuss:

chrysler themselves is issuing it..its 5yrs/70k...it chrysler's "added care plus"...can go to any chrysler/jeep dealership or certified shop...rental, roadside, major mechanical, 800+ components covered, bobloblaw. 200 deductible...got a couple of quotes online and it was actually cheaper at the dealership so i'm gonna go ahead and get it...i figure one big mechanical failure (or the likely two three smallish ones) and its paid for itself. i'm in the crd game for the longrun anyway  the plan is available in twenty states but can be serviced in all 50. colorado happens to be one of the twenty.

I desided to buy the "gold" warranty after I had owned mine for a month and was reading here that some owners found out the hard way that the EGR related valves were not covered and only one plan, the gold one, did. EGR valves failed early and often untill the FCV got metal gears and new ECM firmware. The gold one claims "over over 5000 parts". If you have a choice get the best one so when you have a problem they won't find the "fine print".

Since your just buying it I must warn you that most people that get diesel powered vehicles for the long run. But some buyers may consider 71k a normal trade in time or it could have been a 5 year lease return. So at 71 yours just might have an "issue" the original owner was tired of fighting. That is not all bad because with the experience here most all problems have been identified and a cure found. Remember in 29K miles your going to need the timing belt replaced :JEEPIN: Extended warrranties don't cover maintenance items and that includes timing belts if your thinking it does.
Replacing my steering rack this week the warranty only covered adjusting the toe part of the alignment meaning I paid to get the caster and camber adjusted.

Warranty great! But where are you going to find the VM tech to honor the warranty? You are going to have to deal with a staff of mechanics that know less about the VM then you do.

I already ordered a $1300.00 dollar diagnostic system from the Netherlands to service my 2 Sprinters, If it were not for the 2010 Sprinter, I could have bought StarMobile and covered all my vehicles, but no Dodge Sprinters since 2009.

I got the "Ultimate Sprinter Package" http://www.carsoftsales.com/sprinter/index2.htm

I didn't buy it on mine but then I really was close with the cash I had at the time. my luck with buying warranties is never good either. Usually if I buy one I will never need it untill just after its run out or the company goes bust, like Monkey wards did with my appliances and I was left with a worthless warrany and a broken washer.

But hey if you can get it and the company is good then get it. its kind of a gamble but sometimes you do come out ahead.

I guess it would all depend on when you bought the vehicle and how many miles you had left until the end of the warranty. Last Septermber, I purchased my CRD after leasing it for the prior 39 months. The unit had about 34 k on it. The cost for the warranty at that time for the 7year/100,000 was around $2,100.00. So, I guess what I'm saying is the fewer miles on a vehicle that you purchase has to be weighed against what the cost of the extended warranty will be. Right now, I'd like to be able to purchase our member's redesigned thermostat, but can't do it cause it would invalidate the warranty. I hope you guys keep inventing new stuff along the way, cause after my seven years are up, I'll be needing everything that I haven't been able to mod thus far.
