I took my CRD into the dealer this morning to get the power steering rack that's been on order for 3 months replaced.
I was in the service department and asked if there were any rumors about upcoming Chrysler/Fiat diesels in the US.

The answer was YES. First will be in the GC then eventually in the whole jeep line

Now this is rumor only and no time line was mentioned but consider the source. And there was no hesitation when they told me :jester:

Could there actually be intelegent life form in Detroit or maybe it came Italy :JEEPIN:

I got the same message. GC with a 3.0l six. I think Danoid or MrMopar posted that they already had that engine in their rides. . . pre-production, of course.

I told the sales guy that some of us might bust open the bank account if we could get what we want. That would be a diesel Wrangler with a six speed manual trans in my case, or a Liberty with off-road ability right out of the factory. He replied that they (sales staff) were just as frustrated as we are that the rest of the world gets what we can't have.

I've read a lot or ranting and name calling regarding emissions standards. Does anyone know of an unbiased discussion of the matter. . . or more likely two opposing biased opinions?

I heard that Jeep was FINALLY going to fix the only flaw in the new JK Wrangler next year, and ditch that pathetic 3.8L minivan V6. They are going to use the Pentastar V6 beginning with 2012 models. The Wrangler will finally be worth buying again.

Then, after the 2012 model year it is likely that diesel power will find it's way into a LOT of Jeeps because A) they have to keep up with (stupid) EPA requirements for MPGs and diesel is an easy way to do it, and B) Fiat already has extensive experience with light duty diesels.

So I hope what we are hearing is true. It would be great to see an across-the-board offering of true power and efficiency for Jeep models.

I wish I had saved the links pointing out the new Pentstar V6 problems do to trying to lightening up the block too much. As long as I can drive my CRD I will. Then replace it with a Diesel if and when I have to.
I will steer clear of gassers as long as I can.

If it helps show the way, Chrysler Jeep Australia has confirmed the 3L diesel for the new Grand Cherokee but not for the first six months of deliveries. All the noise says its will be the 3.0L V6 from VM Motori (500NM).

Why does it always have to go to a lowtorquehighrevvingshoterlifespanlessefficient "V" to be made more appealing for the people that don't like diesels? :banghead: :furious: :frankie:

x2

Also while Fiat does have experience in light duty diesels, so did Mercedes. And still we could only slip two models past the accountants.

I see it as a good sign their using the VM V6 because it shows at least for the short term Fiat is committed to VM engines and that might mean better parts avalibality for us CRD owners :jester: Also VM and Fiat are both Itilian firms

Were you waiting on the hose to the P/S pump as it took 3 months to get that part for mine but I would think the rack and pinion would be the same on all Liberty's and readily available.

The rack was leaking. I'm not sure if the rack is the same or not but they did have to remove the front differential to replace it that they don't have to do on the gassers.
