My 2006 CRD Sport needs to be re-shod

I don't do alot of off-roading I do about 30K a year highway 90pct of the time.

I do pull 4500-5000 lbs of trailer/fiberglass about 2500 mi a year

Can I put 17's on the original rims? And in others opinion what tire would last best doing mainly the above?

17" tires on stock 16" rims? Nope!

You'll need the correct set of rims for that... BTW, here is a useful tool for gauging different tire sizes:

Lots of highway, working the Jeep fairly good, and you probably want a tire that'll still be alright in the snow since you live in New England I would assume, right? I personally would look at the Michelin LTX AT2. People can say what they want, but everyone I've talked to has gotten a LOT of miles out of Michelin tires, and they seem to hold up well on trucks.

Your driving sounds like mine. I took off the original bad years and got five BFG Long Trail T/A tour in the stock 225/75/r16 and they are fantastic :BANANA: Had I known the handling difference they made I would have ditch the GY's long ago. They're good in rain and are quiet.

My only off roading is a little beach driving in the sand on the outer banks on vacation and we tow our 3000-3500# trailer there and back. They are very sure footed and I don't notice any hit on fuel mileage either. I can't say enough about them :SOMBRERO:

Everything I read about tires here was about off roading or in rocks but I did fine on some forum where these were mentioned.

That's me , except it is a Maritime Skiff 2090. the Bad Blimps on when I bought have gotten 40K but I need tething before the winter.
We will get some snow even in Southern Mass, :BANANA:

Next year, bigger boat!!

I agree! I have a set and love them! Not sure in the snow yet, but they are great for our rigs

Guys I hate to break the news to ya, but the old school long trails are discontinued, there is a newer long trail t/a tour, but is a completely different tread than the venerable long trail(aka radial long trail)

I've got over 70k on my current set of long trails, and they are due to be taken off for the winter, but I am not sure what I will be doing next summer, might try to squeeze another summer out of them.

Sam.

I believe were talking about the newer Long Trail tires designated as "TOUR" in smaller black letters instead of raised white letters like the rest of the description. I read they started with the casing used on the older LT's because of the good reputation they have and designed a new tread for those of us who only occasionally go off road but often see snow. I've not been through a winter yet but with my little bit of beach driving in the sand I think they'll be great. At 70 MPH exiting the freeway they are very sure footed almost to the point of them reading my mind :SOMBRERO:
I have a set of Cooper Discoverer H/T on my XJ and they are working out well on it but I don't think they are as "refined" for road use as my Long Trail tour are.

The Cooper was my other choice I was looking at them online last night. They have a 60K warranty.

The BFG's were $109 each and the Cooper's were $90 each plus all the misc crap. Same store so that was the same.
There was a $60 mail in rebate on a set of 4 when I got the BFG's so they ended up within $5 of each other.
