I would say the CRD stock setup is a better setup than the "Snorkle-type" airbox that everyone is changing to,as far as forced air goes.
Keep it the way it is or if you're gonna do serious wheeling,just get a snorkel.The turbo sound is amazing btw.

I drive mostly highway, the 06 is exactly as you describe. After I removed the chipmunk repository of acorns, I changed to the AMSOIL filter, you can blast the dust off of it. does anyone know if there is a negative pressure in the box? Is the turbo starved for air? Somebody must have added a pressure gauge prior to the turbo? |

I did it to prevent clogging the filter with dry snow in the winter from where the stock CRD intake is located in the mid grill on the right side. The details are in the CRD tech section. I got my lower half from a salvage yard off a wrecked '02 and reused the CRD top. Since it Snows in New England, it may be a good investment for you. |

I have used this mod on many of my past cars and it ALWAYS helps...BUT...not on this vehicle. I'm thinking that since this jeep runs such low RPMs that there is not alot of restriction there. I gained an instant power increase on every other car I've done this too. The biggest gain was on a corolla XRS that is a 8200rpm redline engine. Very noticeable on that car, also noticeable gain on my 01 GMC I had. It could be that it's not noticeable because the TC is unlocked at WOT and I just don't feel the small gain. But if anything it is just a small gain. Not worth the effort in my opinion. I wish I would have left it stock because I do go through water in the mountains alot and now I have to be worried about it. - Mark |

The location of the Air Inlet Tube on our Liberty is good for the simple reason that it draws in a lot of fresh air quickly. The faster the vehicle travels then more air is funneled into the air box, which is a good thing because our Diesel is hungry for air. The bad part about it is that the location of the tube also allows for dust to clog our air filters quickly. What I learned to do is blow the dust out of the filter with an air nozzle. A little Water doesn't bother the filter, the heat of the motor dries it out and I never drive during a deluge. |
