| Post subject: | Mounting a lift pump |
Got a FACET cube pump and fittings, crawled under the liberty to take a look at the plumbing and couldn't decide where it should go. Can't see a good place to put it that doesn't already have something attached to it or would leave the pump hanging out and liable to be damaged. Thought of putting it on the front of the fuel tank skid plate. Any suggestions? |

my preference is in-tank - it looks stock - however before that this was one of the cleanest installs I'd seen http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=25299&highlight=lift+pump+install (although a couple of folks have done - in engine compartment installs on the facet) |

I am using a Facet lift pump too. I made a bracket and installed under the hood. |

I used a Facet 40109 mounted on the inside of the left frame rail. This mounting required me to bend one of the mounting tabs 90 degrees to bolt from below the frame rail. I recommend isolating the pump with some type of rubber damper, rubber wellnuts in my case.  Cheers, Erik |

I cut into the plastic tube coming out of the tank before it connects to the metal fuel lines with a hacksaw and then used fuel line connectors and jubilee clips to add some hose to connect to the pump. The tank tube has some flex in it, but not a lot so go easy with it. I then mounted the pump right up next to the tank on a cross rail. I don't have any pictures, but if you get underneath you should be able to find a spot. I used two pieces of aluminium angle back to back in a kindof S shape to make an bracket to fit the pump onto (using the rubber mounts) and then mounted the bracket onto the rail (using five heavy duty rivets). The pump is out of the way and works great. Oh, and it was a facet pump as well. |

Thanks for all the info. I have everything I need except the wellnuts and they are on order. Went to lowes looking for something to make a mount from and came up with the metal connector used on the end of a 4x4 post. Made of galvanized steel and just the right size to hold the Facet pump. Even better is you can use a second one to make a cover to protect the pump from rocks. I put the two together with some self tapping screws. I will try and get some pics uploaded as soon as I get the pump mounted.

Some pics of what I have done to date. Family visiting this weekend so couldn't finish the plumbing today. 4x4 post bracket from Lowes. Drilled at top and bottom for the bolts to mount to the cross member in front of the fuel tank and at each side for pump mounting bolts.  FACET pump mounted to 4x4 post bracket.  Second 4x4 bracket mounted over the pump with self tapping screws.  Bracket mounted to cross member on drivers side.

My wife's lift pump is sitting in the engine compartment cable tied to the ABS lines..the power is from the built in lift pump circuit..only because I had problems with the first lift pump(it died) and I already had the connection into the wire harness under the rear seat. Next will be the aritex or dodge intake pump(03 or later). you might want to consider so other features.. like using the lift pump to bleed the air after changing the fuel filter? if you tie the output the bleed screw to a 'T' on the return line to the tank. its easy. find the fitting under the MAP sensor and tie in to the rubber line between this fitting and the tank. since I had already added a Racor filter I just added a valve to the line instead of bleed screw. -dkenny |
