 Post subject: opening radiator drain?

Hi all! I'm getting ready to change the thermostat,hoses,+coolant on my wifes '05 CRD.This is kind of stupid sounding,But how do I open the drain valve on the radiator?Push it in?Pull it out?Twist? :dizzy: Thanx,Kurt

Twist the hex head on the drain valve counterclockwise. If you can get a wrench on it, it's 16mm, otherwise it's needlenose and channel locks. It only needs to make one rev to back way out.

That got 10qts out on my CRD. I disconnected the lower radiator hose where it enters the radiator and pulled that end down and out of the engine bay from below. About another 2 quarts came out of the hose.

I just pull the hose. I've seen way too many either break off or never seal again.
