Good afternoon all, I'm new to LOST, and am spending a great deal of time scrubbing through the extensive knowledge of the group here. I used to have a fairly modified Rubicon (miss it terribly) and there was a great support forum for it (Rubicon Owners Forum), so it was a pleasure to find this one! Ok, current situation: I recently purchased a Rocky Road Rockfather Deluxe kit and it is almost finished being installed at JeepMasters here in Austin, TX. JeepMasters seems to have a great reputation with the Jeepers here in Austin as well as on Yelp (I have only lived here a couple years and only recently got back into Jeeping), so I believe I'm in good hands. Our original plan was to install the kit, keep the stock wheels from the 2006 CRD I have, and install 245/75/16 Goodyear MTRs. JeepMasters is waiting on the tires to arrive, but after they fit the kit on and looked at the clearances with the old stock tires, they are worried that a tire that much larger will be rubbing on the knuckle or elsewhere. I haven't been there to see the situation myself in person so only repeating what they said. I know about possible rubbing (and solutions) with the pinchweld, but what is the general expectation of rubbing elsewhere with this combination? I would like to avoid wheelspacers if possible due to strains on other parts of the drivetrain, and I hope I don't have to come up with even more money for new wheels. So if you have any advice, suggestions, information, or worse-case-scenario, suggestion for a light, quality, inexpensive wheel, I'm all ears! Howdy Bret Yeah I had Jeepmasters change out a torque converter a couple of years ago (unfortunately that didn't fix the F37) They did a great job. The 245's may rub on the pinch weld at the back of the front tire - but it depends on the tread design - I've had 3 styles and 2 didn't hit - one did - all 245/75/16 - but different treads. |

My 245/75/16 BFG long trails rubbed on the pinch weld and the front splash shield behind the turn signals. Some tires seem to rub, some dont. I think spacers would make it worse, the stock wheels keep the tires tucked up under the fender, not sticking out where they rub on the fender flares. I get some rub down low during flex on the fender flares in the rear. |

Bebey, I didn't catch if it's a sport or limited. Actually, nevermind, they both come with Al wheels, right? From what I've heard (as I'm still pre-lift and pre 245s myself), the centerline offset on the stock CRD alloys is a bit more than on the steelies from the 3.7s sports. That means that although you'll get slight rub on the front and rear plastic, your suspension components should be a little better off. Dan |

All CRD's came with alloy wheels(in this country). |

Thanks again for the responses. So an update: I bought the kit that plans on having an aftermarket front bumper and winch and plans for that added weight. I don't currently have either a bumper or winch, but plan on adding a winch at somepoint (Detour solution perhaps if it's ever available). They have it installed, added the 245s and say they mostly have it working. A couple of issues were encountered: Difficulty with the final alignment since the added weight is not on the front. They are saying it is 'slightly' off and are recommending a re-align after the front end settles down a bit in the next month or so and/or after I add the winch. Additionally, because of this, when it was lifted and at full flex, and then brought back down to the ground, something contacted something (I don't recall the specifics as i was in a meeting and distracted) and the CV boot was torn. So they are ordering a new CV boot and hoping to get it out today assuming they can find it and then test drive it to verify all is well. I'll let you all know when I do! |
