Post subject:  Oil vent tube?

Is there a crankcase vent (oil puke tube) above or near the bell housing? I know on my Cummins, it'll puke out a bit of oil every now and then out of a vent tube. I found a few drops on the bottom of the bell housing, so I was wondering. I sure as hell hope it isn't the rear main!!! I kind of doubt that with only 66K on the engine...

Not that i know of but with all the CCV fumes a lot of oil will leak through the turbo to IC and IC to engine hose. Which then builds up and gets everywhere in the engine bay. So that is more then likely what it is. Since i have replaced my hoses and done the Elephant hose mod I have no more of this oily build and no more drips.

Check around your oil pressure switch, sometimes they leak or leak where they screw into the engine back by the oil filter.

If you really love the puke tube, do the EHM, then you will have one.
Install a Provent or other oil separator and the oil in the boost hoses and inter cooler problem is solved.

Two most likely causes are the rear main seal and the turbo drain pipe leaking.
Both are common problems on the CRD but not really worth worrying about.
I have the same drops at the bottom of my bellhousing and I only loose about 1/2 quart of oil
every 6000 miles. No big deal and I'm sure most of that 1/2 quart came out the CCV.

Thanks all for the info. I'll start tracking it down this weekend and do some research here on the Elephant hose, Provent and EHM mods.
