Has anyone actually had the water pump fail yet? and if so how many miles?
I am going to place the parts order and was thinking about taking my chances with the water pump seeing as its the most pricey part!

I am going to be on the fence on this one when my time comes... Keith From Green Diesel engenering told me when we talked on the phone months ago while getting the tune that he doesn't feel its needed at the first 100,000 miles. He thinks the engine is designed to be tough for industy, should last much longer and claime to not do it to their's. If thats true its wasted money but still having it done could be good insurance.

My viewpoint is that most water pumps fail between 100k and 200k miles, which means that if the pump fails at 150k you'll kick yourself for not replacing it. If it doesn't fail by 200k then you should count your blessings and replace it then.

The problem is that if the pump fails its intricate and buried enough that its not an easy job to do - hard enough that you might be thinking maybe I should do the timing belt again while I'm in there.

Sam that is the other side to not changing the pump. change it and know its good to go or play the game and hope you win.

All of my experience is with v-belt or serpentine belt driven water pumps, and yeah, they go out frequently. With those, there is a lot of stress on the bearings from the lateral pressure of the belt. Is there less strain on these water pumps' bearings? Might they tend to last longer since they are driven differently? I've never messed with a timing belt and have no idea how tight they are -- I guess I thought the teeth did the driving -- or is the only function of the teeth to maintain the position of the belt?

If it's remaned by Cardon they usually are not that bad,it's those "New" water pumps that are not OEM pumps that are the ones to watch out for as they never last very long.

On vital engine parts I always recommend OE parts, more $$$ but well worth it in the long run compared to junk made in china.

Mine started leaking around 170000 mi.
That is when I did the timing belt, fan belt, thermostat and fan clutch.

Man, 170,000 that's brave when they recommend 100,000 on the belt!

but if it last me another 70,000 then i guess it would be a wast to do now. On the other hand it might only last 20,000... who knows!
