| Post subject: | CRD cruise control |
Hi, I need some help, I have a 07 CRD Liberty, and cruise control doesn't go on. I tried pushing the button for like 20 secs, and nothing. I read some post about a fuse, but I don't kwow which one is from cruise control. Any ideas?? |

First off did it ever work for you since you've had it? Do you get the "cruise" message in the speedometer when you push the button? It could be several things. First thing make sure your brake lights work. Then look for a blown fuse. It could be a clock spring in the steering wheel. If it never worked or stopped working after a trip to the dealer chances are they flashed a control module and they will need to turn it on as it's an option. Joe |

I had a similar experience with a recently purchased '05 CRD. These vehicles have electronic throttle control, which means there is no separate cruise control sub-assembly as it's all managed by the existing engine and throttle/fuel control systems. And because the Jeep was driving normally other than cruise control, it's obviously not a mechanical problem but a control function. In my case the service records indicated the ECU had been replaced under warranty several months prior to my purchasing the vehicle, so the thought was (as Joe has stated), that possibly the cruise control option hadn't been enabled in the replacement unit. After futzing around with their special programming tools and reloading the firmware the dealer stated they could not get it working and would need more time to trace down the issue to possible faulty wiring or other gremlins. Due to my schedule that day I couldn't leave the CRD at the shop and made plans to drop it off later in the week. While driving away from the lot I confirmed the cruise control wasn't working and remembered the previous owner stating he'd rarely used the cruise control. So out of curiosity I started playing around with the various steering wheel buttons thinking maybe the contacts were dirty or had a layer of corrosion from non-use. After a few minutes of randomly hitting the buttons by drumming on them repeatedly (partly out of frustration and also hoping something would give out), the Cruise light came on. That was about 3 weeks ago and I've been using it almost every day. Either the replacement ECU didn't have the cruise control option enabled and needed a few miles to activate after the firmware update had been applied, or the steering wheel buttons were dirty/corroded and the crud got knocked loose by my shenanigans. At some point I'll take the steering wheel apart to inspect the switches and connections. |

I had a cruise problem when purchased as well. Fogs and cruise didn't work. Stealership said fog light relay was missing and was told that was why the cruise didn't work as well. Don't know if that was true but now I have cruise and fogs |
