I'm approching 98,000 miles and wondering, how long someone has had their timing belt last? I'm broke and lazy.

You'll be broker when the belt snaps. Start saving pennies, and donating bodily fluids.

changed at 110k and could still read the letters on the timing belt. I wouldnt worry until at least 100k IMO.

There have been MORE than one break just past 100K. Both times the repair was into the thousands $$.

$4,200 repair, or $150 timing belt... which is better?

I waited until 115,000. I worried my self sick every time I drove it. While I could still see the lettering on mine, I also saw the pits in the sides of the teeth and the several hire line cracks in it.

The belt is the cheap part if you do it all. What I mean while you are in there you might as well change out the thermostat and the water pump. I have not heard of any water pumps failing, but it appears that most everyones thermostat will fail before 100k.

If only the actual timing belt maintenance WAS $150. What are ppl quoting? 600 in just parts? My mechanic is doing it now and some other work too but we'll see what the cost ends up being. Just around 90k right now, I have the money so I felt safer to get it done early.

My ODO reads 109K miles but it has to hold out 'till mid Jan cause I can't slow down, I can't hold back, though you know I wish I could.... cause there ain't no rest for the wicked 'till we close our eyes for good.

What you're asking is:

How many miles would it take for the CRD engine to crap out if you don't do the 100,000 mile belt service on time?

No one knows the answer to that question, but we do know that it requires about $7,000.00 if you lose the gamble.

Is there a timing belt after-market that is less cheesy than the OEM part? It seems like 100K is it or you cheating the :grim: reaper.

GM and other diesels have a longer change out time for the belt.

No GM diesels with a timing belt, the duracrap has a chain.

Every timing belts I have seen must be changed between a 60k-105k.

If mine breaks there are plans in place to fake my death in a tragic canyon accident... collect the insurance and start over as "Branson Buckmaster".

Previous owner of my CRD said he changed it at 120K (mostly highway miles). He used a dealer that didn't get it right, and had to do it again at a different dealer a few days later. They also said they replaced the turbo, but not sure why, as I don't think the turbo has anything to do with the timing belt, but it wasn't running 100%. Now at 178K it still runs good. I wouldn't let my diesel go over 100K without a belt change and make sure who ever does it knows what they are doing.

You might want to take the cover off and inspect the belt often if you are getting close or over 100K on a timing belt. Just to see how bad it is getting, but it could still brake even if it looks good, so saids the so called experts.
