Post subject:  Looking for a 2006 Liberty

Hello all!

This is my first post here. I am currently looking for a 2006 Liberty with the diesel engine. This vehicle is primarily for my with and road trips.

So far I understand that all diesel Liberties come with 4x4. I also have learned that 2006 was the first year for side curtain airbags. Sounds like a GDE Eco tune is a good first mod to take the EGR out of the equation.

My questions are:

1. What options are there for the 4x4? Are the all the same? 4Lo option?
2. Do all 2006 Liberties have side curtain airbags?
3. Am I totally crazy anticipating 25ish mpg with mostly 55-70mph roads? I am a fuel miser or sorts...

I know the 2005 had less in terms of traction control but thats not really important to me.

Looking for some answers and any words of wisdom. Hope to buy within the next three months....cant wait to get home from the desert!

Thanks

Thad

Thad.

Welcome.

Have you read the (noob guide) very first post yet? Lots of information there :seuss:

All 05/06 CRD Liberties in the US came with "Select Trac" (4x4) transfer case. In addition to 2 hi, 4 hi, part time 4, and 4 low it has 4 full time that can be used on any roads so it's good where the road changes from snow to dry and back or wet. As opposed to the standard x-fer case, "command track", that does not have full time 4x4. 16" mag rims were standard along with the 5 speed automatic. For 05 there was a limited slip rear differential option but 06 has ESP traction control and limited slip was not available. I've not heard of any with side air bags.

Welcome, Thad.

In answer to #3, after the GDE Eco Tune you are totally sane to expect 25mpg on the highway. If you are a conservative driver, you can probably get 25mpg before the tune... With the tune, I've seen as high as 35mpg on my CRD, hand calculated mileage (don't trust the EVIC on these things, ever). Driving up to northern AZ and back, doing 75mph, gaining 6k ft. in elevation, I still get 28-29.

Let us know if you have any questions! But do check out the noob thread first.

1) All CRDs got the NV242 transfer case (Selec-Trac) which is the best t-case ever offered in a Jeep. 4low, 4high, 4FullTime, 2High, and Neutral are the options.
2) My Jeep was built in February 2005, so it was one of the very first 2005 models.. and I have side curtain airbags in mine. So it isn't true that 2006 was the first year for this option. And, according to the window sticker, it was an expensive option so you may have trouble finding one that has it.
3) If you check fuelly.com and fueleconomy.gov you'll see that almost all CRDs on the road are averaging low-20s MPGs. 23 in the Winter and 25 in the Summer is entirely possible.

The GDE tune is an excellent investment for multiple reasons. It's not just about extra power...the benefits to your engine and driveability make it worth it.

Thanks!

I have browsed through the noob sticky and will try and commit the information to memeory but I tend to be forgetful. None of my questions were answered directly in that sticky...but I will look again.

I plan on looking for one that has side curtain airbags...

Hey guys, I have a question about the side curtain air bags. How do I know if my '06 has them. What am I looking for?

I don't have them, but if I remember correctly, the one's I have seen have a small tag located on the roof (headliner) just above the front seat headrest as the roof curves down.

Yes, mine has emblems on the headliner above the windows that says "SRS" (Safety Restraint System).
