I only had 360 miles on my new CRD when the problems started and I had to leave it at the dealership last Saturday. On Monday the service manager told me that they had to order a part and it would take at least 5 days or more. When I questioned why it would take so long for a part, he said it had to come all the way from headquarters. What ever that means. Now, assuming that headquarters is where they build these Livertys, that would be about a two day drive from me or 2 hours in a jet. Does this guy just assume that all Liberty buyers are stupid!

I could get a part from Pakistan in 5 days. What is going on with Jeep? Are they having to build these parts as they need them or order them from a subcontractor and have zero on hand? I never had a problem like this, even when I owned a Porche 911.

Does anyone out there have an idea what is going on?

Well, if it's an engine part, remember that they're made in Italy. So if they're run out of spares here in the States, it may be coming from Italy. N they can't ship form Italy to your dealer, it has to go through various distribution centers and such.

What part was it? As I asusme you've gathered from reading here, EGR valves are a common replacement item - they may have run out.

The part is a 'glow module'.

Grywlfbg was correct. The part came from Italy. It is now installed and I am picking up my CRD today. Looking on the positive side, it's like getting another brand new CRD in a two week period. The dealer, Douglas Jeep in Venice, Fl., even gave me a nice rental for a week on their dime. :D

I also had a "glow module" replaced on my CRD ... my delay ( 2 weeks) ... I could still drive it, was due to the part being on a "star hold" or something like that. Apparently the dealers have to call Chrysler and run through their diagnostics before Chrysler will send them the part. too many replaced glow plug components were being returned as defective. Turns out a good portion of them tested fine when returned to Chrysler.
