Hello everyone here!!!! Just bought my first '06 CRD Jeep 3 weeks ago and love it. The first day I owned it, it got the maf unpluged and the CCV mod. Since then I built a cold air intake using a 4" K&N filter with a 3"-4" adapter and the heat shield off the FIPK kit for the 3.7L K&N Kit. Soon to come is the exhaust and Green's tuning. Anyhoo my question is can you replace the Clutch fan with an electric? Has anyone done this? I do pull from time to time with it and don't want it to heat up. I'm trying to gain the most MPGs out of this little jeep. So far I've gained 2mpgs from stock. (22 mpg here in Wyo with winter blend).

Welcome.

Leave the mechanical fan alone :mrgreen: Mark, the fellow making the replacable thermostat, installed a flex fan on his but I don't remember the end results.
In the past several here had overheating problems, mostly on the 05's, and the ultimate cause was the fan clutch :lol:
A user here had his-n-her crd's and his would over heat going up their long steep driveway and hers was fine. After lots of time/money spent trying to resolve the problem another member went to help. They put the two CRD's side by side and started them. Her's sounded like a jet engine and his did not even though it was moving a lot of air :-)r
It would take a whale of a electric fan to do the job that would use a ton of amps that your alternator would have to supply. End result would be a wash :BANANA:

Just make sure your thermostat is working properly. Blocking the air flow through the radiator will not help if a failing thermostat is opening too soon.

The CRD already has an e-fan. Remove the clutch fan and throw it in the trash. Mine runs fine at 190 degrees in Summer heat with no clutch fan at all.

Did you see a increase in MPGs from getting rid of the drag? I bet you felt it in the drivers seat when the throttle was applied.

I put on of those Flex-a-lite kits on my Cummins conversion in my F350 and don't have any cooling issues, so with the right set up you should be able to find a electric to support the same as the mechanical.

I just found this fan for a Gasser Liberty. Has the same mounting as the stock fan shroud or so it looks like.

Honestly, the MPGs improvement that I've seen has been very small. Almost hard to even prove. I'm surprised because my Ram 1500 saw significant improvement with the clutch fan gone.

But, it certainly can't hurt to have that weight and drag removed from the front of the engine. We had ambient temps of 100 degrees with heat index readings of 124 degrees in August, and my temp. guage stayed right at the half-way point the entire time in any traffic.

I do not think I would risk killing a turbo by putting a K&N on any of mine

and Keith at GDE would tell you the same (as he told me)

I know that is a big subject. I havn't lost a single turbo do to running a k&n filter. I run a lot of diesels. Keep them clean and oiled. But my favorite filter is AFEs Pro Guard 7. But thanks for the concern. :D
