I own two CRD's: 2006 with 64000 miles (it has the stage2 tune from InMotion) and a 2005 with 104000 miles (it has the eco tune from InMotion). Both of the Libertys have the original torque converters and they both do the TC shudder when going uphill at about 53 mph. The 2005 has begun making a whirling sound from the transmission when it shifts from each gear. It is worse when I punch the throttle hard. Does this sound mean that the TC is in failure mode or is it something worse? I have time to pull it into the shop this winter and change out the TC. Just wondering if I should go into the trannie while it is out? Thanks, Jay |

Check the fluid for a burned smell, if you can smell it, it is time for a new TC and either fix the front pump with a Transgo, New Pump, or buy a ticket to Las Vegas and see what your luck is that your front pump is still good. You may need to have your trans rebuilt if the crap screwed it up. Bookie could tell you as well as any competent tech on your odds of not going all the way after the shudder problem. You could do an Oil Analysis on the trans fluid and they can tell you if you have had any trans failures yet. As you can see in my signature, I went with the SunCoast/Transgo/PML extra deep pan/low shift point TCM upgrade. When I go through Las Vegas airport or any other casino, I don't drop a penny into the one arm bandits or play the tables, better to invest in my Wife, at least I have a better chance of hitting the Jack Pot ![]() ![]() |
