I've seen a couple of referance to this but GDE has no info on their website about what it does, how it does it, how much and etc. Is this really a useful tool and what do you folks do with yours???

Thanks

It is basically a hand held code reader with extra memory to store your tunes. And it is listed on thier website in the same area as all thier tunes one up from the bottom. And everyone seems to be very happy with them and thier capablities. I am looking into one myself with the eco tune loaded on it and i already have the HOT tune  and the Euro TC and i am extremely happy.

I got the programmer about a month ago but could not get to work with my 05. Went through several firmware updates trying to get it to communicate with the KJ. No luck. Had to send it back. Keith, with GDE, was great through the whole process. Customer service is awesome. All was well in the end. I got an eco tune and am very happy with it. Once all the bugs are worked out with the programmer communicating with 05's I will snatch one up. I don't think there are any issues with the 06 models.

Mine works great! Now if the I have service work at the dealer (unlikely) and they decide to to do me a favor and reflash to the old setup, I don't have to bother Kieth anymore, I can return the ECOtune myself anytime. Besides, it also works as a OBD scanner.

We fixed the communication issue with the flash tool about a week ago. The flash tool manufacturer updated the firmware after a recent software update. Thanks, GDE

Does that mean I can move my current hot tune to the programmer and save it??? Flip back and forth between stock and hot??? or have an eco tune and also flip back and forth??

I guess I really don't understand what a programmer does.

Yes it stores the program and you can transfer
(now it's not quick - takes about 20 minutes to download)

and mine had some initial problems - but Keith recompiled it a couple of times - and it worked
(great customer service - great product)

The flash tool can tune a 2006CRD in about 4 minutes as it communicates via the CAN bus. On the 2005, we have to use the J1850 bus and this takes 15-20 minutes.

It will easily switch between ECO and HOT tunes or the stock tune if you want to reminise about having less fuel economy and performance or want to see random check engine lights and feel the lag of the turbo in city driving. :D

What communication issue you talking about??? I got my programmer since July 2010 do I need to update the firmware? Since Chrysler will release a new firmware for our ECM to work with the new glow plug metal kit, we will need a new tuning file from you indeed but what about our original already in memory in the programmer, he can't be erase by us and we can use it to restore the ECM to is original status because the new glow plug is not in there AKA BIG PROBLEM if we try.

What have you in store for this Keith? Can you add the correction to the original file store in our programmer???

Good call. The tuner should hold 4 tunes...need to verify. We can send two mod files if desired: stock w/ new GP mods and tune w/ new GP mods. The software update was on Alientech's side, existing flash tools are not effected. The latest version of pwgconsole is now 3.80 and this version required a new firmware for the 2005 KJ. With the flash tool the switchover is seamless.

So if i buy the flash tool after the glow plug ECM update and i already have one of your HOT tunes are you just going to load the up dated version on there before you ship it to me? Or do you want me to send my ECU so you can verify that i bought one? Also have you worked everything on the 05 for the tuner as far as code reading and clearing and you say i have to connect it to the J1850 bus it that actually on the ECM?

The flash tools are loaded by the customer, that is necessary so the tool recognizes the vehicle being tuned. No need to send in the ECU when using the flash tool, we can verify your customer status with the VIN or your name. The tuner functionality is the same for 2005 and 2006, both will read/clear codes without issues. The busses are methods of data communication between ECUs inside the vehicle architechure and transparent to the end user.

I can tell you from a relative neophyte to programming, the way Kieth has it set up over at GDE, it is really easy. If you can plug in a scanner to the OBD Port (even if you can't Kieth will walk you through it) and move a file on your computer, you are done.

Anyone can do this. Even someone that can't turn on a computer.

Will this also view engine operation like a scan tool?? Or is it just for programming and codes??

Post subject:  Re: GDE Flash Programmer

It is only for flashing and code reading/clearing. No parameter monitoring or recording.

I wish I'm wrong because last time I verify the programmer handle 3 tunings and mine have already 3 in it! Loosing the possibility to getting back to the original status don't bother me at all, the real problem is the recognition of my ECM by the programmer after programming the new ECO and HOT tune files you will send me and the ability to read and clear code because of this.

If the programmer just use the VIN number in the ECM "OR" a code insert by you in the program to identify our unit we have probably nothing to worry about, we both know where I'm going with this discution and I don't ask for a crystal clear answer for the moment, soon as Chrysler release the new update for the ECM, just keep us inform of your progress and testing Keith.

I wish you a Merry Christmas.

So do I need to buy the programmer for $300 then buy the tune for $450?

Post subject:  Re: GDE Flash Programmer

No need to buy it. Order the tune and pay the 300 as a deposit. If you decide to keep it tell Keith. And its yours. If not return it and you are only charged a rental fee.

The tune is easy to install with the progammer you download your ecu send it in by email he sends the tune back and you install it both took a short time on my 06
