Well its winter in Michigan and I have 3 bad glow plugs all of a sudden, it started in any temp up until now. Now it will crank for a long time and start unless its very cold then its very hard starting.
Has anyone had any luck finding and installing the new plugs?

You need to get 4 new glow plugs + a glow plug controller, as the voltage supplied to the plugs needs to be changed.

The whole kit is:
Kit (4x GLP + 1x GCU): CY P/N 68090434AA and should cost $166 from the dealer.

Individual parts are:
GLP: CY P/N 68090430AA
GCU: CY P/N 68090431AA

Oxygen Sensor still had the old style glow plugs before Christmas, I got 4.
If you have or plan to get the GDE Hot tune, you better follow their recommendations and go for the new controller, new metal covered glow plugs, up coming dealer flash and their flash.
Until then, you better plug in.
Harbor Freight has a quite generator you can use when no 120V is available.

I tried at my local dealer earlier this week. At first he said the part was available and at many dealerships across the country and he would have one of the kits here by Wednesday. I stopped by on Wednesday and he said that they were on back order. When he looked into it he now said that they were unavailable for sale. He said that they were only for new vehicles. Now I am confused because the Cummins doesn't have them I am told. I don't know what NEW VEHICLES he would be talking about.

So now I am just biding my time until SOMETHING either good or bad happens.

This might be the last straw! The jeep is no good to me if I can't drive it in the winter and now it's going to be difficult to start on the 0* days. How can they do this to people? How can they just not have the parts our vehicles need to run? I work on my own vehicles and I don't mind doing so but if I can't find parts, then what? It's not like it's some super old car!

My dealer originally said I had to wait about 3 weeks for the parts. Two weeks later they said the kit was not available but the individual parts were. Bottom line, they can order the parts or kit.

Online searches may or may not show up retail sources, but the above part numbers are correct.

Seems like if we want to keep the Crds around we're going to have to start ordering parts from across the pond.

I'm almost at 70K and am wondering if I'll have to get the parts for the timing belt from across the pond. If I do I may as well get some glow plugs...

It's mid winter, still lots of cold weather left for me here in MI. I'm ready to order plugs from anywhere at this point. The girlfriend is worried it won't start again while she's at work. Just my luck, she doesn't have a plug available so she might have to drive my truck on a cold night, I don't like that idea! It's a lot bigger then the jeep. So if you know where I can get some I would owe you one!

Similar problem here. I have the code that one GP is out. No problem starting as I live in southern California, hardly need GPs even in the winter. Called dealer a week ago to order GP kit, after searching the part number they put it on order. Said at that time they expected it to be a couple weeks before they get the parts. But there was no promise and it may take a while from what I hear on this board. Then I have to get the ECU flashed by Jeep & reflashed by GDE. Quite a pain. GDE recommends the new GPs and I will get them as soon as I can. I still drive the CRD, about 1K miles since the CEL first came on. Has anyone received the new GPs? Maybe when they come in the old ones can be salvaged and given/sold to those who have single GP failures and want to try a fix with used ones.
All this requires dealer service, I assume? Anyone have a mechanic or dealer they trust in southern California who could do the work if the GPs are available?
Looks like quite a few are suddenly failing. Dreaming of a recall.

Post subject:  Re: has anyone had any luck finding the new glow plugs??

Well I have talked to a few dealerships and they say that the old plugs are on back order and basically not available. One dealer said that they and plenty in stock of the warehouse. I found one that has one kit instock, the new metal plugs that is.
So if I get my hands on them will they work? The dealer was not aware of a flash or update for the glow plugs. Has anyone got the flash?

Help help help!

I got my kit early in Dec. I haven't installed it yet because I am due for the T-belt service and plan to do it all at once.

Well I hear that you can't even use it with out an update... if thats true then the parts are useless, is the true? How can they do this to people, not a good program they are running over there at Chrysler!
Has anyone got the glowplug update?

I am ready to order the old 7v plugs from Australia, but I don't want the crappy ceramic plug to break and grenade my engine!

Post subject:  Re: has anyone had any luck finding the new glow plugs??

Well I found a set of the new plugs, the kit with the relay but I have been told by the dealer that has them that they don't have an update (that the know of) for them!
I talked to Keith at GDE and he said that the new plugs with out the update would just burn up because the voltage is too high.
I am thinking about going to get the new kit and installing the relay and maybe taking a multimeter to see what the output is before actually hooking up the new plugs.

Would I be able to get a good reading from the 4pin connector that connects the glow plugs? I guess I should check to see what it is now.

If anyone has any ideas let me know, and if I end up ordering the old ones and I get them ha, I will let everyone know for sure !

(taken from my other post but I wanted to update this one in-case anyone has any good ideas to get this figured out!!!)

I am not 100% positive but when I talked to GDE they said that you have to first dealer update and then if you have their tune (I do not, but will soon if I can figure this issue out!) GDE will have to do their update also!

Well I have the new plugs in hand believe it or not, just don't know if I can use them! Dealer has no info on update!

It was my understanding that the new glow plug controller outputs the correct voltage for the new glow plugs, but I am not 100% sure of that.
