Post subject:  HELP '06 KJ CRD cut off while driving 5 miles from my house

My '06 KJ CRD cut off last night while I was driving to a friends house.
There were no noises, rather the engine just cut off as if I had ran out of fuel, I still had 3/8ths of a tank.
I started running B100 this summer and recently switched back to petrol-diesel after I had start up problems in the cold weather, I have not changed the fuel filter since switching back. Last winter I had no problems starting every morning around 6:00 Am in the North Carolina cold. This winter I have had to plug in my block heater every night. The two times I have forgotten to plug it in I have been unable to start the engine until the air temperature rises.
Also the two times the fuel clouded I used the bleed line at the fuel filter to check the viscosity of the fuel.
Making (as far as I can see) for two possible sources of my troubles; either the fuel filter is just clogged and needs to be replaced, or when I was checking for clouded fuel at the fuel filter I let some air into the system.

If it's the fuel filter then no problem, I'm gonna replace it today and I'll post if that solves the problem.
My worry is that I let some bubble into the system, if that is the case what do I do to bleed it out? is there another bleed screw? or is there only the one at the fuel filter?
Or are there some other possibilities that I haven't accounted for?

After she shut off I checked the oil and it looked low, so i topped it off. She is due for an oil change in another 1000 miles, could this be part of the problem?

Since you are replacing the filter (a must on most any engine issue if it hasn't been done in a while), consider a RACOR fuel head or new OEM fuel head and a LIFT PUMP. The aforementioned are almost mandatory for a reliable running CRD. An inline lift pump is much easier/quicker to install than a tank mounted install.

interesting, the boat I sail runs a 4 cylinder Mercedes nanni-diesel and we use a RACOR so I'm familiar with them. how much does one of those run? with the lift pump of course...

oh, also I fixed my problem.
My buddy (a mechanic) came over and he reached over and pumped the primer plunger for the fuel filter and noticed that fuel was coming out around the filter. It simply wasn't screwed on all the way. :banghead:

Racor is made to fit the liberty or is it the otherway around?

Make sure you get one with fuel heater; it costs about 150 bucks.

I used anKennedy Lift Pump viewtopic.php?t=39362 has all you need to do the install with an inline lift pump. You can use a facett lift pump, some even use a low pressure electric (gasser) pump designed to replace mechanical fuel pump. The Kennedy lift pump is 4PSI and makes starts MUCH easier and better acceleration from a dead stop. There is some debate about pressure...I personally wouldn't exceed 10psi and less is better as far as I'm concerned.
