| Post subject: | 05 limited slip problems |
Not sure what could be the cause of the limited slip not engaging any more, possibly worn clutch plates? i already checked diff fluid and put an ounce of limited slip additive in the diff and didnt do anything. both tires are worn the same on the back as well any one else had this problem within 63,000 miles? |

What fluid are you using? I was using the fluid recommended in the owners manual and it was screwing my Trac-Lok up really bad. I switched to Walmart "Super Tech" regular dino fluid in the 85W140 flavor with LS additive and my stuff is smooth as butter now and the LS works better. |

At 63,000 it's just pretty much worn out. It'll probably still spin both rears on snow, but not on pavement anymore. |

well it spins both rears on snow sometimes, not all the time, should i order new plates for it? or is entire unit need to be replaced? i havent changed the fluid yet either. it was changed before i bought it with 53,000 miles on it supposedly |

You should drain the rear fluid, and just run some good Gear oil with limited slip additive already in it as already stated. You have to realize the factory Trac-Lok isn't like a detroit locker or anything. They will slip fairly easily, especially off road. Tommy |

Jeep specifies their own synthetic rear diff lube and specific additive. Our experience with the TracLok is its only pretty useful for 35 to 40K miles. We have a factory ESP so it only costs $100 each time we have it rebuilt. I plan to install a Detroit TrueTrac when the warranty runs out. DOC |

DOC You do not have ESP being as you have a '05,ESP didn't come around till '06 for any KJ. |

ESP was selectable option in '05 CRD, standard in '06 |

ESP refers to "Extended Service Plan". We have the DCJ "Maximum Care" 7/100 ESP. We paid $1800 for it prior to the expiration of the 3/36 warranty. We pay the first $100 each time the Jeep goes in for a warranty repair. DOC |
