Anybody here ever hear of Evans Waterless Coolant?
It is supposed to allow you to run a diesel engine at higher temps without cavitation or vaporization issues. I know of a few guys who swear by it for keeping their trucks pulling heavy without worrying about occasional high temperature excursions.

Here is a link that explains the benefits: http://www.evanscooling.com/fuel-efficiency/

I am considering running it in the CRD and my truck.
My question here is: Is there a higher temp stat available that will fit the housing?

I have used NPG in a different car, and the science in their whitepapers is sound, but it does have a higher viscosity and lower specific heat than water/ethylene glycol. Plus our owner's manual specifically states not to use propylene glycol, which Evans does contain. Maybe someone can comment about why it forbids propylene.

I split this off the t-stat thread. It's relevant, but as that other thread is filled with actual discussion about the t-stat, this topic deserves its own.

Thanks. I wasn't sure; as my question was directed at the modification process I posted it there.

I may call Evans and ask about this. Maybe it has something to do with the water pump seals?

I know Ford did alot of tests with that junk, same coolant requirements as Chryslers, and now they have a TSB on it forbidding PG coolant use as it has been shown to have catastrophic engine failure with PG coolant use.

I have read about Evans but I don't see it being worth the risk being not the correct formula the is speced for our Jeeps and cost is more too I'm sure. the stock Tstat is 80°C or 176°F there is nothing else you can get unless you want to wait for the unit Mark is working on prefecting that you could put a 180° or 192°F thermostat in but the waiting list he has is growing. I would just stick to the HOAT stuff, Zerex G-05. If its not in local discount autoparts stores or mass retail NAPA has it or can order it.

Use PG type coolant on an old Mercedes diesel with a cast iron head.
I have heard some have run the 5 cyl MB IDI up to 275F with no problems with PG.
I would not mess around with waterless PG with our wet sleeve engine.

Thanks. I just wanted to know what the consensus was around here. The big lure for me was the corrosion proof properties of not having water in there.

I am planning on running it in my '57, purely for not having to worry about cavitation or corrosion, and because I know the cooling system is waaay oversized anyway. The International motor calls for a 200F stat from the factory. The motor only has 40k on it, and the last thing I want is to have cavitation issues.

I am on Mark's list for a 90C stat and waiting patiently.  :5SHOTS:
