Dose a 2.5 CRD have a MAF sensor and if so where is it? and if not why not??

No we don't have a MAF. We have a MAP.

Pre-2005 the Jeep Liberty CRD used an open loop EGR system and only relied on boost pressure to determine the proper EGR valve duty cycle. On newer versions the mass air flow sensor was required for the closed loop EGR operation. In this form it measures the fresh air flow and all the make-up flow comes from the EGR system.

You should see the 2001 version of the MAP/air temp sensor:

Tanks Guys, So if I understand the system right all I have to do, do disable the EGR is to make a blanking plate and bolt it in line behind the EGR valve? Is that correct? and while Im here is there any place I can get a manual for the 2.5 ive got the tec manual for the 2.8 but really like to get my hands on the 2.5 manual.

No you don't have to go through all that trouble to kill the EGR.

All you need is a big screw. :D

Much better is the hidden mode:

So all you do is block the 'OUT' marked tube on the EGR control valve. No CEL, no problems, no working EGR.

Service manual for the 2.5 CRD and parts fiche etc can be downloaded here:

Thanks Tony, that was about the easy'est mod I've ever seen, thanks. I tried that link for the service manual but the message ( Requested file is deleted.) appears, Do you know any other way to get it ?

Let me have a look at that, file is deleted? Yikes...they did! Darn. I'll upload it again. Hang on.

While I'm waiting for that, Flyingdoc where do you live and what year KJ do you have and do you have any pics of it?

Ok, I found out you have an '04...didn't know they still made the 2.5 in '04....can you have a look at your build date? (probably '03) There's a sticker on your left front door stating the date of build. Unless...you are RHD and then the sticker might be on the right front door..:D

Had any troubles with your 2.5? (other then the cooling fan bearing)

I had nothing so far, (some simple things, alternator decoupler, belt tensioner but nothing big like turbo or whatnot the US guys have) and I am at 170K kilometers (100k miles). Going strong like they day I bought it...dunno..maybe the '02-'04 was build tougher then the '05+??

Ok, here you go, get the Service manual here: http://www.easy-share.com/1913551389/16142-kj_sm.p

What will happen if I plug this vacuum hose on the 05-06 sold in the USA? I remember seeing this same part on my USA 06 2.8L model.

Your turbo won't work very well! This line is your boost control supply and runs to the vane actuator on the turbo.

I find it strange that there was still a 2.5 CRD available in 2004, as Tony says, probably built in 2003!

By the way Tony, the Italian chip box that fools the fuel rail pressure sensor that you and I fitted?...mine went "Bang" after about 2 months usage! I was not too concerned because although it did give better performance I found fuel consumption to be much worse! :( Not worth my while with the shipping costs to send it back to the factory under warranty.

Darn, bummer...mine still works. LMK if I can help you out in any way.

Your EGR is electric, not vacuum controlled. You can unplug it, but that will turn the CEL light on.

Hey Tony thanks for the help, Build was 03, I only have one problem at the moment and I think its turbo related, when i accelerate hard or on the moto way foot to the floor the cel light comes on and i get a flat spot before the engine accelerates again, ( code 0235 )

Im in the middle of driving her down from Dublin Ireland to trapani in sicily Italy, I ve left the jeep in a paris airport going to finish the trip early next week, at the moment the cel light is on but I notice on really long drives it goes out by it self, only to come on again if i accelerate hard, Im running her with out the cooling fan for the winter seems to be no problem even in city
driving.( gives about 3 miles per gallon!)

Thanks again im sure ill be calling on your experties in the near future,
