Post subject:  No Reverse after sitting all night in garage
This morning when i was attempting to pull the libby out of the garage I had no reverse, i shifted it to reverse and had hit the gas and it just rolled back a lil bit. I shut the truck off and let it sit for a few mins, when i went out to try it again it worked fine. anyone else had this problem? could it be the transmission drain back valve problem that i have read about before? or is it a stuck solenoid?

X2 on bad trans filter, common problem.
Chrysler had a bunch of defective trans filters some jerk dumpster dived and sold on eBay a few years ago. I went with a Wix from O'Reiley so I could avoid any Mopar defective filters that may have been reboxed and sold under house brands. NAPA also sells Wix.

More then then dumpster divers and e-bay :BANANA:
Chrysler parts people after recalling them put them back into the supply line :-)r
At that point they issued a new number for the correct good filters :banghead: I think this took place in late 2006.

I suspect the filters, that are supposed to be replaced duing a transmission service at 50k miles, are now at the end of their service life and the check valves are failing :JEEPIN:

No CEL? Mine stored a couple of codes. After changing the filters it took quite a while for the codes to clear.

It happened again this morning, i will check the codes on monday at work, last week when i checked i just had normal codes because of MAFS unplugged and what not.

The drain back problem is pretty easy to diagnose and fix or live with. When you first crank up, with your foot on the brake, engage the tranny in reverse, if you feel the tranny solidly engage just drive. If not with the engine running put the tranny in neutral for about 5-10 seconds then shift into drive and then reverse again at which point you should feel the transmission engage. If it does you have the drain back problem. This cycle works for me just fine as I'm too cheap to do a tranny service early to fix this minor problem (Note: I had a similar issue with 2 Plymouth Voyagers). However, when you first crank up if the tranny does not engage DO NOT rev the engine in gear as doing so willl 1) cause a very hard engagement and 2) let you drive about 100 yds before the engine shudders and stalls, it will restart ok, while throwing a code that takes several drive cycles to go away.

Obviously the long term fix is a tranny service and replacement of the defective or worn out filter/valve.

PS: no code will be thrown unless you do the no no I noted above.

I could not live with that, nor could I find the desire to drop 2 tranny pans with the cost of fluid and filters over some one else Ef-Up. So I found a more economical permanent solution.
