Anyone ever thought of this? Attempted this? Anything?

I had an old 79 Jeep J20 that was as cool as can be, before it went to midwest rust heaven. I would love to have the CRD all tuned up with a new turbo, ecm and tcm tunes, and nice built transmission in one of these things. I don't think it would cost too much (compared to selling the crd and buying a newer bigger vehicle), as all I need to do is wait for body to die around my KJ... only 10 years or so to go..

Come to think of it, I could do the transmission and engine upgrades now, then it would just be an engine / transmission swap... I know I am dreaming, but it feels good.

4bt or 6bt would be a better choice for that thing, and much easier to get going than trying to do a CRD swap.

Not really, I'm putting a CRD into my MJ, its lots of work and very complicated. A CRD into a wagoneer, J10, J20 etc is going to be just as much work as an XJ swap, but many times more than a 4bt or 6bt.

You can run a mechanical injection pump 4bt or 6bt and having something that very easy to setup.

You can run a cummins EFI system that is very easy to setup(NOT a dodge EFI system).

You can run a CRD engine with the bosch EFI and spends days digging around in wiring diagrams.

With an old J20 it would be easier to hookup new guages and such off the ISB engines, getting all those same things to work on a CRD is gonna suck.

if the CRD rusts out - the better swap is into a Wrangler - factory parts
(although you might have to get them from Europe)

and it's been done (check out Burnsville - although they're not cheap)

yah so it might be easier to put the motor into something else, but putting it into a Grand Wagoneer would just be super cool. Probably bring the dash and everything into the wagoneer as well..

Oh, the dreams... it is a shame they far exceed my ability and my pocket book!
