Post subject:  In Line Lift Pump Suggestions

I have an Airtek in-line lift pump. I have had no fuel issues since installation (July '10) and no issues with the pump other than it is noisy. I can hear clearly clicking away while stopped and idling.

Does anyone else have a suggestion for a quieter in-line option? What did you use and approximately how much was it?

Thanks!

Did you isolate it with rubber mounts?

is the pump sittng on rubber isolators??? If not, you might consider them. I wouldn't have thought that the cliking of a fuel pump would be that audible at idle unless there is a sound short.

Isn't the whole idea of an external lift pump to have it installed as close to the tank as possible?

Post subject:  Re: In Line Lift Pump Suggestions

Install it by the battery, it works just as good as if it were installed near the tank.

And it's a 25 minute job.

I don't have very good experiences with these pumps personally. High failure rates, noisey, etc.

Facet inline fuel pump.

• Fuel Compatibility: All models of the Facet Posi-Flo Fuel Pumps are compatible with gasoline, diesel, biodiesel, blended alcohol fuels, and fuel additives.

• Solid State Reliability: Proven on thousands of original equipment applications. No electrical contacts. No bearings or diaphragms to wear out or fatigue. Lasts four to five times longer than many other electric fuel pumps.

• Easy to Install: Two-bolt installation plus the small size makes installation easy. For best results, mount the pump close to the fluid or fuel tank and below the liquid level.

• Eliminates Vapor Lock: When properly installed on most vehicles a constant, smooth, dependable supply of fuel under pressure is assured in the hottest weather or in high altitudes.

I been using the Facet inline fuel pump since 2007 behind the battery and never a problem or noise. I was smart enough to wire tie it to the wiring harness there.

There are two models of these "over the counter universal" pumps; one designed for diesel's, the oter for gasoline powered vehicles. Difference is based on fuel pressure limits.

Kennedy Diesel makes a quiet pump and there are posts in the CRD Tech Section on how to install.
My Carter is noisy, that is if I can even hear it with the pot holes I have to go over here in the Midwest. If you have smooth enough roads where you can hear an electric fuel pump running, count your self very lucky.

I don't notice it while driving, just when sitting at a light, drive-through, idling.

Here is how I installed my lift pump.

http://facet-purolator.com/index.php?op ... &Itemid=35

I installed one of these in the engine compartment.

I secured it to the existing holes on the side of the pan that the battery sits in, with a metal L-bracket I picked up from the home depot. All the pre-drilled holes align perfectly.

I connected the (+) red wire to one of the fuel pump relay prongs (slide the wire in along side of the prong) in the fuse box located close to the battery and connect the ground to the battery ground.

No cutting, no drilling, just parts and 45 minute labor.

Bill of materials:

1. One - Facet Posi-Flow lift pump from NAPA auto parts.
2. One - 4.5" x 4.5" predrilled, metal, chrome plated, Flat L - Bracket from the Home Depot.
3. Four - 1/4" nuts and bolts with lock washers.
4. One - 3'-0" piece of black fuel line hose from NAPA (cut to desired lenght)
5. Four - 3/8" hose clamps.
6. One - 1'-0" long 12ga red electrical wire. (used as an extention to the fuse box)

Can't be simpler than that.

Total cost $67.00, give or take a few.

Runs perfectly - I don't hear any sound when it's running and the throttle is always ready to the touch without any lack of power or air in the fuel line.

Post subject:  Re: In Line Lift Pump Suggestions

Here's the way i fitted mine, same model as raceTracer;

I made a L bracket and drilled two holes to line up with the Facet bracket. I then slid the bracket between the condenser bracket by using some silicone spray
and to avoid damaging the condenser. Used one cable tie to support the L bracket.

I chose to do it this way as i use my aircon almost daily in SA and the condenser gets nice and cold which means my fuel pump is not heating up so much
and heating the diesel supply to the filter which we don't want. The mount on the battery compartment is a bit flimsy and you would need to use longer fuel hoses
to reach the fuel filter head although your electrical wiring to the fuse box would be shorter.

I can only hear the pump slightly when i turn on the ignition otherwise nothing.

Nice and Quiet! I had installed mine near the rear seat where the cross member/support is. I used the clamp bracket that came with the pump and originally tapped a small bolt into this member and bolted it on. Using your suggestions, I unbolted, cut out five, 1" squares of UV stablized rubber sheet (1/8" thick), procured from Skycraft, the best of the best stores in Orlando. I drilled a hole through the center of the squares slightly larger than the bolt. I then did two squares, one side of bracket, square, other side of bracket, two squares. I put a longer SS bolt through the center with a large washer and lock washer and reattched my ground. Quiet as a mouse.

I had to put my hand on it to feel it working.

Pls don't ask for pics. I'd rather change the timing belt.

Buy and use the Kennedy pump. Anything else is marginal and your wasting your money.
Now that's just my evaluation. Gleaned from going the excessively economical route.

Very happy with the Facet lift pump installed by the battery. I can barely hear it before the engine starts up, and not really at all while idling or running.

Quick and easy. I have had no problems with air or flow issues.
