Following a bout with a blown CAAC hose I had noticed after our trip 300 miles home that she had become harder to start and, had began smoking not the wife the 2006 CRD KJ ha ha . Anyway following protocal I cleaned the other CAAC hose the intercooler the IAT sensor etc. Ran pretty well but, smoked like a train so this morning my wife goes to leave in it and, it starts hard then dies and, wont restart. I went out popped the hood and, tried to prime the pump no pressure then I noticed the glistening diesel around the rim of the filter head. The flter had gotten 1/8 of a turn loose over time causing alot of messes. I tightened it up primed the pump and, she came to life quickly. NO Smoke ! I drove it around for a few minutes and, returned to find NO SMOKE. In theory the filter being loose was allowing air to get in and, bubble the fuel which is not good on a diesel. Anyone else had a similar problem, I am using a Wix filter?

when you change a filter - double check a day or two later - they can vibrate loose.

and in Texas heat - I doubt the fuel heater was on.

Also make sure both the old gaskets come off with the old filter especially the inner one. If that inner one stays on the resulting double gasket can casue filter seating problems and maybe an apparent loosening of the new filter.
